The facility is magnificent, but the following quote from Dr Rudd (U of M President) kindled hope that he and perhaps major donors will not accept poor performance from our coach and by inference do something about it:
Quote:Historically it’s a top 10 program, we expect it to perform at that level and we’ve resourced it at that level. Part of my responsibility is asserting that expectation and standard, and that is the standard.”

$20 Mil on an art facility seems a bit excessive.

Art can get pricey.

Should have spent that money as a down payment on an OCS. 03-wink

Seriously, congrats. And in before somebody turns it into a USF/UCF pissing contest.

EXCERPT from Commercial Appeal article:

Let me tell you about some of the cool stuff. The thumbprint is cool. The players enter the place with a biometric thumbprint. They hold their thumbs to the door, it magically opens up and there, on a big screen to the left — summoned by that thumbprint — is each particular player’s schedule for the day.

The showers are cool. They’re individual, they’re wired for music, and they’re completely soundproof. That means that each player can choose his music on his iPhone, have it piped in to the shower and soap up without anyone else hearing the music.

The private theater is super cool. The sneaker display lit up in neon is retro cool. The stunning entryway and the massive Hall of Champions isn’t just cool, it’s magnificent.

But you know the coolest part of the new Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center?

The coolest part is what it says about the ambitions and the future of the program.

“We have resourced this program at a top 10 and 15 level nationally,” said University of Memphis president David Rudd. “We expect to be at that level, period. We have resourced it that way for a reason. Historically it’s a top 10 program, we expect it to perform at that level and we’ve resourced it at that level. Part of my responsibility is asserting that expectation and standard, and that is the standard.”

Bill Laurie is a former starting PG for Memphis, alongside Larry Finch, Larry Kenon and Ronnie Robinson, on that Gene-Bartow coached 1973 F2 team that lost to Bill Walton and UCLA.

Laurie married one of Sam Walton's (founder of Walmart) daughters. Between that and smart business investments he is worth about a gazillion billion, lol. Well, enough billions, anyway.

Facility is named "The Laurie-Walton Family Basketball Center."

This facility cost $20.5M. He chipped in $10M with promise of plenty more to come. Maybe he'll chip in a bit for an OCS later on, lol.

With the way our weather goes some years, it should be a domed OCS.

Still looking for pic of outside front of building. It's impressive, too.

Very nice. I don't agree with Bill Laurie stating" that you don't build a building like this until you deserve it after years of winning"(paraphrased).
What happened to the Field Of Dreams quote? "Build it and they will come"?

It may be sooner than a couple of years, depending on Tubby’s success on the court and on the recruiting trail.

Don’t turn this into a Tubby bash fest. Grow up and admire the building. Shouldn’t have to tell grown men that smh

Let's focus on aspects related to the AAC and the Memphis Tigers and not Tiger fans.
