We have the potential to be a top 3 hoops league with the right moves. Build up our brand in basketball.

I think at least we should as our TV partners what they would think, but the bigger need is for ECU to become the next VCU and stop sucking at basketball.

I always thought VCU should have been the olympic sport counter to NAVY football... as WSU has been added, now I only seeing them adding VCU if ARMY football joins the conference.

Wichita State is fine but once you start adding a ton of non-football schools you get into the same issues with conference governance that plagued the original CUSA and the last iteration of the Big East.

I agree. I think maybe let one season play out with Wichita St first before you are already trying to add new teams. I think adding Wichita was a solid strategic move but they should digest that first and try to build and invest in the programs the league has. Which is happening honestly. I mean Cinci and Houston are getting upgraded facilities. Tulane seems to be doing it the right way with Dunleavy. Really the only program that doesn't seem to be trying is ECU honestly. Not trying to throw salt on the wounds as I know many of you are upset with where the athletic program has been heading.

No, and it would be swell if you stopped starting crap threads like this. We are not going down the oBE rabbit hole again, no matter how hard you want the AAC to.

I agree with everybody on this, no more bball only schools. We fixed the issue with adding WSU.

Here's a fresh idea:

We should merge with the Big East.

There is a huge difference between having 8 football schools/8 basketball schools and having 12 football/3 basketball.

It seems pretty obvious that a priority of the conference is competitiveness and geography. There is a strong possibility we will see two teams added from the three.

^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^

That said, there is no obvious No brainer addition like Wichita sitting out there right now. While I’m not philosophically opposed to adding a couple of additional good basketball programs, I’d prefer to wait until an obvious “cant lose” choice rises to the top.

There is also a strong possibility that you're full of crap. Especially considering, when weighing whether or not to add Wichita, Aresco went on record as saying there'd be no more bball-only adds. We have Navy, and now we have WSU. I say that is enough.

No and double dog dare NO. We should go to NBC and offer them the chance to create the last power conference for half price (15mil per team)by having us grab byu,Boise, Sdsu and either Army or AFA football only (I would take Army for the lucrative Army/Navy game). Then snatch Gonzaga to offset Army. The zags are worth more than all of those teams combined and would jump at that last chance to move up to a power league. NBC could buy and restart the poinsettia bowl with a liberty bowl type payout for our champ/#2. Them buy either the peach or fiesta bowl for us with the promise that all of our big corporate boosters that were willing to pay the big12 hundreds of millions would sponsor and buy up the advertisement slots. Boom solved that problem, now on to world peace. I can dream right? Lol03-cloud9

Unless there's a "can't lose" football add out there, and no I don't consider BYU and Army "can't lose", then there will be no bball only adds. It's like you heard Aresco's quote and decided he was lying. Well if he's lying about that, what else is he lying about? Hmm.....

Somewhat. Wichita is a solid add. What the AAC needs in hoops is Memphis to start pulling our weight again. I really thought when this league formed that Memphis, UConn and Cincy would be the powerhouses and that hasn't really been the case. At least, not with us. If we were recruiting & winning at the top 25 level that we should be, it would be better for the league. We've sat back and let SMU, Houston, UCF, Tulsa (to a degree) pass us by because the admin refused to part ways with Pastner and then F'ed up even worse by hiring Tubby. Hopefully, he will retire at season's end and we can start rebuilding our program.

Memphis- Wichita- UConn- SMU- Cincy battling at the top with UCF-Houston-Tulsa - Temple right behind is a top 5 league.

There really isnt. CUSA 1.0 did that and the conference never had an identity. The American has built more identity in 3 years than CUSA 1.0 built in a decade.

Signed,

Memphis, Cincy, USF, ECU, and Tulane.

p.s.---In the end, the basketball schools not named DePaul and Marquette got screwed when CUSA 1.0 broke up. St Louis and Charlotte have never truly recovered.

I doubt he said we will never add more bb schools. Stupid no to entertain the idea if networks wanted more good bb matchups.

Yeah, basically what I'm saying is do what the networks want, as long as we get $.
