I did not see that. Thanks. Not sure why there would be afternoon games on random Thursdays. Oh well. I am sure we will have our crowd of 150 there.
10-15 years ago, they used to do Drexel Dream Day with Women's basketball and invite school field trips to the game and there would be about 2,000 screaming kids at the game. I don't think that's the case for today thought. They didn't say that they're doing anything special today.

I vaguely remember this. I also remember playing penn at the palestra at an odd time around the holidays. we lost so hopefully today goes better.

RE: women's basketball
Drexel and Cornell battled for 3 quarters and Drexel led by 6 after 3. But Drexel took over the 4th quarter, ended the game on a 24-8 run, and cruised to a 61-39 win. They finish the OOC part of their schedule at 8-4. They came into the game with an RPI of 46, but beating Cornell at home actually hurt them and brought their RPI down to 60. So once again, a nice start to the season, and hopefully they can continue their momentum into their tough CAA schedule.

The OOC was very good for us. Hopefully it leads into a good conference slate. Elon and JMU are still going to be tough. It is still Elon's season to lose.

And don't sleep on W&M. Abby Rendle is a beast. They've played a relatively easy schedule thus far but they still have a great record and they're going to be really good.
Drexel was a mediocre 11-7 last season in the CAA. Hopefully they can improve on that and fight their way into the top 2.

W&M is still a wait and see team to me. They got off to a blazing start last year too, but when push came to shove they were still not good when conference play came around. They beat who they should have and lost to who they should have. I agree they will be solid, but will they take the next step to really challenge the top? Wait and see is where I am at with them.

RE: women's basketball
Great weekend for the WBB team as they started off the CAA slate 2-0 with big wins against rivals Delaware and Hofstra. Drexel looked dominant in their 74-53 win over Delaware on Friday. Today against Hofstra, the offense really struggled but the defense was outstanding in their 47-38 win.
Also, Congratulations to Coach Dillon, who passed Lillian Haas as the all time leader in wins in Drexel women's basketball (Combined Division I and below).

Friday night's game at W&M is postponed and will be played Tuesday night at 6:00.
Hopefully the men's game at home vs. COC is played. I'm already going to be down in the city tomorrow with plans on attending the game.

RE: women's basketball
So now a big game looms Sunday on the road against JMU. We should be well rested and get a chance to see if we plan on competing with JMU/Elon at the top. If we can't win or beat this JMU squad, not sure we have much of a chance against Elon either. I think JMU is down and we are playing well right now, so I think we steal a nice road win here.

RE: women's basketball
Tough match for Drexel this afternoon, at the house of horrors known as the JMU Convocation Center. Drexel has lost 11 in a row to JMU. That's a real compliment to JMU considering that Drexel has been the 2nd best team in the CAA overall during that stretch. JMU has a losing record in their OOC schedule, but they played a brutal scheduled loaded with power conference teams. They'll be tough once again as usual.

With that much time to prepare, we needed that one. Looks like we are still a notch below Elon and JMU still. Thought we were ready to challenge the top based on our OOC performance.

RE: women's basketball
Very entertaining game down in Williamsburg tonight as Drexel pulled it out in overtime. W&M is a really tough team trying to fight their way into being one of the top teams in the CAA. The Tribe took control of the game in the 3rd quarter, but Drexel fought back in the 4th quarter, took a 2 point lead in the last 2 minutes, lost the lead, tied it up with a long 3 by Marecic in the final seconds to tie, trailed by 4 at the start of overtime, but then came back again and won. It was clearly a battle of wills of who wanted it more. Drexel needed it badly after losing to JMU on Sunday, and will come back from that really tough road trip 1-1.
For any of you who loves Drexel basketball, and loves to watch exciting basketball, I highly recommend watching the replay, starting in the 4th quarter.

RE: women's basketball
Considering that this is a fairly young team, at least compared to last season, it's encouraging that they've shown an ability to come back from fourth-quarter deficits to win games. I fully anticipated this season to be more of a developmental year, so it bodes well that there hasn't really been a major drop-off in performance (credit to Coach Dillon as always).
Slight problem is that most of JMU's core is sophomores, so they're not losing anyone substantial in the coming years either. At some point, in order to make the leap, we're going to have to figure out a way around them.

Definitely a big road win. Needed as well after yet another loss to JMU. This will definitely help towards staying in the top 3 as W&M is a likely candidate to be challenging for that spot.

RE: women's basketball
What's amazing about this team is also a bit of a concern. Drexel is getting a lot out of a team that doesn't have a 1st team or 2nd team CAA player on the roster. They don't have a player scoring more than 11.5 points again, which means they get scoring from a lot of different players. They can put any 5 of their 11 players on the court at one time and be able to compete. Opponents have a difficult time preparing for matchups because they seem to feature a different group of players in every game. Sometimes, she'll give all of her starters off for an entire quarter, and they don't lose anything.
However,
They're shooting just 39% as a team, and have shot under 40% in 9 of their 16 games (winning 6 of them). Their free throw shooting is down from prior years. While their defense has been outstanding, I do wonder if they can keep on winning games scoring in the 40's and 50's.

RE: women's basketball
Drexel looked scary good this afternoon in a 68-42 drubbing of UNCW. Drexel, who has had a bit of trouble with their shooting percentage this year, shot 50%, but most impressive was they forced 25 UNCW turnovers and held the Seahawks to 33% shooting. And once again, with their team first mentality shared the scoring load as 10 different Dragons scored.
Drexel is now 1 game behind undefeated JMU and head on the road this weekend to Northeastern and Hofstra.
