Minnie did something to his knee. Ice pack on it while on the bench.

Minnie just said the ice pack isn't anything serious. sounds like a bruise. he's also saying so many positive things about EMU, which is great to hear.

RE: Game Day: Howard
4 for 4 to start the season. That is, I missed all 4 games so far. I love coming here and reading everyone's comments. But you guys have been quiet so far, maybe I am. Or the only one missing games.
Anyway, I am real glad EMU got these first 2 D1 games. The next 3 are on the road so will be tough. But neither IU, SFU, nor NFU are having stellar starts to their seasons. So I am hoping EMU will be coming out of this next stretch with another win or two. (and grabbing a couple home wins before going hitting the road again with 3 tougher opponents. But I am getting ahead of myself)
Great start EMU Basketball!! Keep it up.

One parenthetical note (if that is the right expression):
Last year we got burned with that terrible schedule to start the season (@Pitt, @SMU and two games in Indy, one a home game for IUPUI). Too much traveling, etc.
This year we get a favorable start being able to combine two non-D-Is with two mid-majors before taking the training wheels off and going on the road.
And the parenthetical note is that in 2016 EMU FB had a more favorable schedule and did well.
This year, as we all posted many months ago, we had a very unfavorable FB schedule and it hurt our record.
I think we have a real shot at IU. We aren't hitting on all cylinders yet, but I don't think IU is either. They may still have their training wheels on...

Of interest from the stats:
1) The only blocked shot was credited to 6'1" Paul Jackson. I am wondering if he is leading in minutes because he is a good ball-handler/distributed, good scorer, OR A GOOD DEFENDER. In any case, statistically speaking, Paul Jackson is exceeding what I think most of us were expecting.
2) Minnie back to leading scorer with 21 points.
3) Thompson seems to be the best player on the team with 18 points 14 rebounds- not a surprise.
4) 18 turnovers is too much for my taste. Including 4 each from Jackson and Thompson (the teams best and most consistent players?)

I don't disagree with your sunshine on this one, Steve. It would be excessively bold to expect a road win against a program like IU. But they are 1-2 and only beat Howard by 9 (compared to EMU's whopping 10 point margin).
It is still IU, and I still heavily expect them to beat EMU. But with some (a lot of?) luck, EMU could steal a win. (We talk so much crap, Steve. Watch IU crush us by 30)

#1: Jackson and Harris are playing at the top of the zone. Jackson looks a lot more natural up there than Harris. Harris is definitely trying - i'm not calling him out or anything - i just think Jackson has caught on to the defense more quickly. i wasn't sold on Jackson after the two NAIA games, but now i'm sold. i like him a lot.
#2: Minnie scored well. he made some nice entry passes to Thompson. the only bummer is that i didn't see the same aggressiveness from him that i saw in the two NAIA games.
#3: Thompson is a beast.
#4: Thompson gets double and triple teamed very quickly. that's when those turnovers happen. he needs to act as soon as he gets the ball to either pass or shoot. even pausing for half a second gives the defense enough time to surround him. he's smart, so i have no doubt that he'll get better at this during the year. Groce is also a wildcard. he's as likely to have a highlight reel play as a turnover. i'm on board with it, because the potential with him is so clear.

Groce is my nominee for pleasant surprise, he makes everyone better when he's on the court. Does a lot of things very solidly.

Just watched the game, and I see what you are saying about Harris on defense. He is absolutely trying, but you almost "see him thinking" when he is looking and running around on defense, trying to determine where to go. And perhaps even just a tad slow. But truthfully, I don't think he is performing poorly in defense either.
You are also right that Jackson is much more fluid defensively, he almost has an intuition on where the ball is going. You know, Ben Wallace used to contradict the common notion that defense is only hustle/discipline/etc. He claimed it was much more about vision- some had it, some don't.

Oakland had Nunn and Walker and not much else.

Nunn took 27 shots. That's gross. I hope he plays that kind of hero ball against us.
