So, they will be paying off Long through 2022 and Bielema, if fired, through 2020 - and Bielema's buyout is $15 million.

Taking into account all of the new money that will be spent on an AD and football staff, that is one expensive shakeup. With Florida, if you add up the buyout to Muschamp, firing buyout to McElwain, the hiring buyout of McElwain to Colorado State and the buy-game to Colorado State, that was over $40 million - and that's without any new money being spent on the new staff.

We are in one expensive period of college athletics. NFL Coaches, on average, don't even reach that.

Bielemas buyout isn't 15 million. At most its 11.2 million after the last game of the season.

Sheridan said today that after bowl season Bielema's buyout goes to just over 5 million.

If there are a couple of well placed upsets the league could have gotten not one, but two in. I remember doing the math- the chance it all went chalk like it did was like 5%.

to me that's not getting screwed, that's just bad luck. Huge difference.

A lot of people use the phrase for bad luck and misfortune.

TCU lost to Baylor, thus they weren't B12 champs. NOPE.

Sorry, too bad, so sad.

Well, TCU proved the committee wrong that they belong in the playoffs by blowing out their opponent in the bowl game.

Well, if it's only $11.2 million, then I guess Long didn't make a mistake by giving Bert that big contract after all! 07-coffee3

One of Longs biggest mistake was telling a well connected fan. If they didn't like the direction of the program they could be a fan of Arkansas State.

Hard to believe since he said everyone in the state is a Hog fan.

Did you apply the same standard to Ohio St last year?

I know. But that made the rumor rounds last week.

By the same logic the committee made the correct choice since Ohio State beat Alabama and then beat Oregon by 3 TDs.

Far greater gap between Ohio St and everyone else last year resume wise than in 2014. TCU's resume was not that good, and they had the Baylor albatross hanging all over their neck at the end of the season. And there was no chance of Baylor getting in, given their SOS albatross hanging all over their neck.

And yeah, Bert should also be making plans to start living the buyout life.

Don't you think that Long would resign from that committee?

His term is up after this year- so no don't think he'll resign with only 2 weeks to go now.

It's not surprising, nor is it interesting. Prior to the Georgia game he was likely to be terminated at the end of the season. Jimmy Sexton is his agent too. Just like he is Mullen's, Saban's, McElwain's, and on and on and on.

He always threatens a school when there is a big win with the prospect of their coach receiving other offers. Since Bret is likely gone from Arkansas and Malzahn is a native of that state you get this rumor. The idea is to make the school who just enjoyed a big win rush to sign an extension with a raise of which Sexton makes between 10 to 15% depending.

Also the Iron Bowl is in two weeks. Sexton always plagued Auburn over Tubberville's future a couple of weeks before the Iron Bowl. Why? It always concerned the Auburn trustees that the players might lose motivation if they thought their coach was leaving.

So.....it's just the same old schtick from the same old agent who is looking to glean his annual profits. BTW, he also represents Jimbo Fisher, Kirby Smart, Will Muschamp, & Orgeron.

If you look up all of those he does represent, and well beyond the SEC & ACC, you will see a pattern of these kinds of leaks about this time every year. So no, it's not surprising, nor is it interesting, nor will it make a difference at Auburn this year.

Malzahn beat Georgia and that won him another year of employment at Auburn. If he beats Alabama as well, that might get him a raise. So our end is pretty unsurprising and uninteresting as well.

OK. I took the original post as indicating his term went beyond just this year. I agree. No reason for him to do anything now.
