I love the picture in that article of Lew Perkins. It is too funny that Lew was Wichita State's AD at the time that they decided to drop football. When he was UConn's AD just a few years later, he emphasized that UConn needed to move the football program up to D1-A or run the risk of being left out of big time athletics since it was possible that the football schools and their conferences could separate. His premonition is gradually becoming true, but he didn't foresee this "P5/G5" garbage that may still put UConn on the wrong side of the fence. That said, I just can't see the AAC schools being left out for basketball and would think that we would be included if the P5 ever decided to form their own separate and new version of the NCAA. The cutoff line would probably be at the AAC, though. While the G4 conferences have football, they can't really make their case for inclusion on the hardwood. While the Big East has great basketball, the future P6 doesn't really need a basketball only league.

The way I see it, Wichita was very smart to hop into the AAC when they did. They now have the option to maybe eventually add football, but aligning with the best basketball and football league that they could possibly gain admittance to was prudent. It maximizes the chances that they are on the right side of the fence when the hammer falls.

Is that freaking Bruce Haertl on the play-by-play terrorizing Shocker fans back in '86?

Every time Rene snorts and slobbers over the airwaves in Wichita an angel loses its wings - and major traffic accidents spike. I know I've nearly hit the ditch flailing for the radio tuner when I get the first warning that she is coming on.
