SC plays hard and tough. We should get something out of this. And we didn't get taken to woodshed. Onward and forward.
I think you're being a little nice. This SC team is going to struggle to make the tournament this year. They are tough defensively, but we've played poorly defensively, missed free throws and taken quite a few bad shots.
Perhaps. I see that we played an SEC team that made a run last year, on the road, and kept it around a ten point game for most of the night. Not saying we were great, but rather it wasn't a real bad loss. It looked to me like we will have the makings to be pretty good, even with this loss. I can digest it. Admittedly, I am not a hoops guru.
Whatever happened to gobaseline?

Jones and Johnson were both really bad last night, but I doubt that's going to be a trend. I think Wilder's development took another step. He looked like an NBA guy last night. Davis looked a lot better, too. I'd love to see him start at the 2. Wilder, Davis, Jones, Johnson, and Dugan would be a really big and really physical MAC lineup. This would also let Moore run point with the bench. Randall looked a little out of his league at PG last night. I think he might have more of a 2-guard's game.
Overall I don't feel much differently about this team's outlook than I did before the game started, even though I did expect that they'd hang around with SC.

Our preseason MIAA/NAIA D3 schedule hurt us last night. First time we had to shoot with defenders actually covering our players. I wish we would go another route like taking advantage of the NCAA rule that allows closed scrimmage with another D1 school and at least playing a competitive small school.

I like that we have a capable rotation and could almost do a line change if needed. This will become very apparent in league play, I believe.

I didn't think Johnson was really bad, but I agree with you that Jones really struggled. I just think Johnson was a little overly aggressive and started pressing when he got into foul trouble.
I thought the same thing about Wilder. He's already been great obviously, but he elevated his game to another level last night and showed he is capable of carrying the team on his back, if needed. Reminded me a lot of David Brown in that regard.
I like what Davis brings off the bench. Moore is a slightly better defender and is usually in better positioning on the floor (relative to Davis) so I'm good with the way Hawkins currently rotates them. We are so deep at the 2 and 3 spots that we can afford to be patient here.
Love our young/underclassmen talent. However we really need to recruit a couple athletic centers for the future.

The "new" NCAA center is the 6'8-6'9 guy who can jump and run. Hawkins has said in interviews the five positions on the court are changing and 7' centers could become history. Watching some games lately in other conferences I think he's correct.
