I really hope Ehsan makes great strides as a coach this year, because he is proving to be a damn good recruiter.

I'm not sure he is recruiting any better than where UAB stands in the long term pecking order of CUSA.
We are a top 2-3 team and he is recruiting at about that level. Not dramatically above it.
We lose out on a lot of guys we were after too. A number of them to other CUSA teams. And a half dozen to UAT.
Of course, its good to have guys signed in the early period.
Rather than doing like Davis and waiting until July and seeing who is left.
I'm very pleased with Scootie. He was a nice surprise.
Ehsans challenge is going to be having a defense that can defend beyond one guy blocking shots.
Because the other 5-6 top CUSA teams are not going to lay down & quit because we have signed some good players. They are not signing slouches.

Scootie really isn't a surprise. He was our #1 recruiting priority last year, at any position, per the coaches

UABfan1, were you around for the Mike Davis years? We would sign maybe one middling player during early signing, sign one or two very late in regular signing, and then get a grad student transfer from somewhere, somehow.

This is recruiting heaven by comparison.

Isn't Boyce a consensus 4-star? That ain't common at UAB.

He is a surprise to me because I don't expect much out of freshman because historically very few freshman make meaningful impacts.
2 games against weak competition does not mean he will do this all year but it sure seems like he might.

What the heck is TSSAA? Does that mean this affects the signing or he can't play in this exNBA LEague this season?

I was around for the Davis recruiting crap, believe me.
But, I was thinking about something last night. How much better would William Lee be if he played for Davis ?
Compare where Cameron Moore was to what he became.
Its not exactly an apples to apples comparison, I know.
Moore wouldn't have become half the player he became if he was allowed to play outside & jack up 3s all the time.
And say what you want about Davis, I've said it too. But his teams defended.

RE: Boyce Signing Ceremony at 12 noon today
You have to take recruiting rankings with a grain of salt.

Kinnard was ranked just a little below Wilson Chandler coming out of high school. Chandler left for the NBA after 2 years and played for a number of years. Not that Kinnard was a flop. Just that the rankings can only be so good.

I think its clear that Boyce, like a lot of guys, found out what he thought were offers were really interest. In other words, he didn't turn down Florida & Memphis for UAB. UAB offered, the other schools showed interest and they might have taken him in the late period if they couldn't find anyone better.
That does not mean he wont be a good or even very good player for us. Just that he didn't have early sign-able offers from many of the schools on his list. And its great that we realized that and scooped in on him. But he wasn't William Lee situation where William had multiple other higher level real offers.

A f'n men. Don't understand the Davis hate. Some think Haase was better because he won one f'n tourney game

We've had as four stars: Vaden,Sharpe,Toney,Mayfield,Kinnard, Ellis, Brown, Lee, and maybe Bassett.

On paper the 2007 team is the best I've seen on and off the court followed by 2009 or 2010. This team is a legit fifth or sixth behind the sweet sixteen team another Anderson team but that's past ten years. So maybe this team is third being under ten years. Mr Ponder was right on the decline since Davis. I would take the 13 best Davis recruits against the best 13 from Haase or Eshan anyday. I mean he has been dancing more than UAB as of late.

Also how well are we playing since we've lost Hak, for those who thought he was great. Offense seems more fluid with better shooting. Also better in transition. Maybe even better defensively.

I also think we add Boyce into the 10 man rotation easily and not play one of the freshmen bigs. Would love to see who we get for the 13th scholarship (big, big guard, or shooter).

Donnie Marsh coached the defense.

Yeah, I left out that the biggest and most ballyhooed recruit would usually wind up ineligible and never put on a UAB jersey.

RE: Boyce Signing Ceremony at 12 noon today
What the Legend said. Davis is one of the few MBB HC's I can name who essentially had a defensive coordinator who coached the defense and called the defensive sets. Donnie Marsh is a good coach and a good man, and I sure as hell wish we still had him. I don't disagree that the defense needs to get a lot better.

Davis is a good big man coach, no doubt. I went to a lot of practices while he was here. He had good points and bad, but overall he takes something of a bad rap around on the board. That said, when he left, it was damn well time for him to go.

Personally, I'd love to see Ehsan hire a defensive minded older coach who demanded respect and played enforcer. I hope that he coaches up the team defensively and gets the intensity level up on that side of the ball.

Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association. (I have this friend named google)

I think what it means for Boyce is he can play at a prep school if he can find one and still come to UAB. But, if he goes to prep school for 2 years, he would be open to sign anywhere.
Or maybe he can go back to the high school from where he came. Not sure on that.
