Wow, remember basically all season when people were claiming we were going to fall way-short of 6-win eligible teams?

Seems like a distant memory now ... 07-coffee3
We are awash with 7-5 & 6-6 teams.

What we don't have an ample supply of are 2 loss and 1 loss schools to fill the non CFP top bowls. I think the AAC could pick up some better bowls this year.

Apparently NMSU may not accept for budgetary reasons, even with the Sun Belt having a tie-in with the Arizona Bowl.

just looking different way-
AAC 6 BE so far, Temple, Tulane still possible- 1 likely 1 not. 7 Bowl Bids. 1 likely short(given G5 spot in access bowl)
ACC 8 BE so far, Florida St, Ga Tech, Duke still possible- 1 likely 2 not. 10 Bowl bids(assuming 2 in NY6). 1 likely short
B12 7 BE so far, Texas Tech still possible- 1 not 7 bowl bids. probably perfect
B10 7 BE so far Indiana, Purdue, Minnesota still possible- 1 guaranteed, 2 not 9 bowl bids(assuming 2 in NY6) 1 likely short
CUSA 8 BE so far, MTSU, ODU, LT still possible- 1 guaranteed, 1 possible 6 bowl bids. 3 likely over
MAC 6 BE so far, Buffalo still possible- not likely 4 bowl bids- 2 likely over
MWC 6 BE so far, UNLV still possible- 1 likely- 5 bowl bids- 1 likely over
P12 7 BE so far, Cal, UCLA, Utah, Colorado still possible 2 guaranteed 7 bowl bids- 2 likely over
SEC 9 BE so far 10 bowl bids- 2 likely short(assuming 2 CFP games)
SBC 4 BE so far, ULL, ULM, NMSU still possible- 1 likely 2 not 5 bowl bids- perfect
Indy 2 BE so far- ND with ACC bowls(possible for NY6), Army- Armed Forces Bowl.

looks like possibly available-
AAC- Cure Bowl
B10- Heart of Dallas Bowl
SEC- Birmingham, Independence(AAC has backup option- could go here instead of Boca Raton)

Several teams only have 11 games and did not reschedule.

If they are 4 short? They go to the next 4 in APR.

Apparently NMSU may not accept for budgetary reasons, even with the Sun Belt having a tie-in with the Arizona Bowl.

AD was quoted as saying they might have to decline for financial reason if sent "east" because of the travel costs and difficulty of fans traveling. Tucson is not east of Las Cruces and it's only 275 miles.

NMSU wins their last two (both are at home hosting 3-7 Idaho and 4-7 South Alabama) they are the logical pick of the Arizona Bowl.

If NMSU wins out, the only way they wouldn't go to Tucson would be if Louisiana Lafayette wins one of their last two games (host Georgia Southern, travel to Appalachian State) to get bowl eligible and the conference strong arms the bowl to take one of the Sun Belt teams that will be remaining in the conference after this season after NMSU departs.

It might largely go unnoticed in the wake of Miami's upset loss, but Buffalo inexplicably beat Ohio to become bowl eligible. That could be the final nail in the coffin for 5-7 teams hoping to get in via the APR route.

100% UT or Tech. Then would need a losing sweep in the other 3 games (two KSU and other game of loser of Tech and UT) to prevent a second team. Using FPI, KSU is 16% to win at OSU, 49.3% to win at home against ISU. Just for KSU, it is 58% chance of bowling. When you add in the chance the loser of UT and Tech gets a win is it a 71% chance the Big 12 will have 2 more teams eligible.

Turns out didn’t even need the last game (ISU at KSU) to get all 3 teams eligible. Of the 4 UT/Tech/KSU games since this post, underdog won 3. TCU over Tech only non-upset.

So ... as of now (Saturday morning), how many schools are bowl-eligible at the 6-6 level, not counting Ole Miss on probation?

Have we filled all 80 slots or whatever it is?

76 of 78 slots.

No Poinsettia lowered from 80 to 78.

SEC: 9 (Ole Miss has postseason ban)
ACC: 8 (Duke, FSU, GT still alive)
AAC: 6 (Temple, Tulane still alive)
XII: 8
B1G: 7 (Indiana-Purdue winner becomes eligible; Minnesota still alive)
USA: 8 (MTSU-ODU winner becomes eligible; Louisiana Tech still alive)
IND: 2
MAC: 7
MWC: 6 (UNLV still alive)
PAC: 8 (Utah/Colorado winner becomes eligible)
SBC: 4 (ULL, ULM, NMSU still alive)

That’s 73 plus at least 3 more will become eligible today. I think Temple, UNLV, ULL, and NMSU all make it to give us 80 eligible teams. In theory we could reach 86 teams if ULM/FSU becomes a contest of 5-6 teams, but that would require some huge upsets (Georgia, Wisconsin).

I'd really like for New Mexico St to land a bowl.
