RE: Lacrosse : realignment, rivalries (postponed) and re-evaluation (costs)
Random tidbit of info.

https://www.collegecrosse.com/platform/a...ssion=true

"... the ACC also decided to extend their conference tournament to two weeks."

"Instead of trying to get another team to join the ACC and get their automatic qualifier back, the coaches instead to extend their conference tournament an extra week. This makes no sense."

If I'm reading the tea leaves, this says to me that Hopkins might be staying in the Big Ten and continuing to grow that conference. It really could be that the ACC is so confident they don't need the AQ but it is at least a little interesting. We shall see what happens but that is my homerific take on it.

It'd make sense. They have all the facilities already in place, they're in a talent-rich portion of the country, and would likely have their pick of an affiliation with either the Big East or a startup Atlantic 10.

May make more sense strategically to aim for the ACC, which doesn't have an autobid with five teams.

Autobid doesn't really matter for the AAC - we're a long ways off from the AAC winner getting frozen out. What's more of an issue for them is the potential for two or so more conferences starting to sponsor the sport and reducing the number of at-large bids available.

The AAC has women's lax but not men's. UConn needs some men's conference, as a men's lax AAC is far off. The most proactive solution is to see out the ACC for that: Syracuse, ND, UVa, UNC and Duke.

Not one AAC school sponsors men's lax, except Navy who plays mainly in the Patriot League.

I'm aware that UConn would have to find a home for lacrosse, I just think the ACC would say no to UConn as an affiliate member. It's why I brought up the Big East and a theoretical A10 - both those conferences would likely say yes to a start-up UConn.

The ACC would say no for the first two years, but the reality is they need a sixth men's lax program to give all their teams a shot at postseason. The other options are so non-aspirational.

I mean, if they wanted UConn as an affiliate I'm sure the school would say yes. Just don't think it happens. For what it's worth, I wouldn't be surprised if Miami wound up school #6, using the sport to recruit east coast private high schools for kids whose families can afford full boat private tuition.

Notre Dame Lacrosse Is The New King Of ESPNU.

Talks about Notre Dame, the ACC/ACC network and Hopkins relationship with ESPN.

That article makes you wonder about Hopkins and their current situation. And at this point, if they were unhappy, going to the ACC wouldn't exactly add much leverage for Hop and their ESPN slice. Would going to the Big East be any kind of solution?

#1 in the MCLA poll and appearing to be in a good place for transitioning p next year. Still no news on conference affiliation.

My guess is Utah wouldn't have made the decision to move the sport up if they weren't comfortable being an independent for the next several seasons. What'll be interesting is if, once the Bonnies come on-line, the A-10 launches lacrosse with four full members and a pair of affiliates (I think they will). I don't know that Utah gets a look there, but there could be some trickle-down shakeup in the wake of that.

I would think the main draw for Utah to an Easter conference would be increased brand familiarity among the growing west coast LAX scene. I assume all of Utah’s games would be televised on the PAC-N which would reach a western demographic not otherwise easy to capture.
