Well, in that case Withers . . .

My God, what an awful hire. It was pretty telling to see what JMU's new coach did with his players. 24-1, with no losses to FCS teams, and 1-1 vs FBS.

03-shhhh Don't let our fan base hear you say that, most, at least on the Bobcatfans site, still think he hung the moon.

I'm willing to give him til year 3 (which is next season) to produce positive result.

Most Coaches who come into a new gig at this level, attempt to work with the talent that the previous Coach left behind. I'll grant that Fran left a less than desirable culture, one that any new Coach would have to address. I just question the need to blow the whole program up, to burn it to the ground and totally start over.

I think that there was still talent on the squad Withers took over, talent he could have worked with had he tried . . . Part of what a new Coach has to do when he comes in is sell his vision of where he wants to take the program, sell, inspire, motivate . . .

Not really sure how much of that Withers tried to do. He was caustic, abrasive, and generally a "my way or the highway" kinda guy . . . and he's paying for that now.

Not being overly critical here, just what I've viewed of his tenure to date. Still willing to give him til next year to produce, but to date, yeah it don't look real good.

But you also have to look at the history of the program: 7 winning seasons since 1985 ain't a great track record . . . not like we're adept at hiring winners . .

Though I'm certainly open to the prospect of a change . .

Fran was a better coach, I'm afraid to say. Not that y'all need to hire him back. But geez.

Geez. Withers' record is atrocious. Withers has not won a single FBS game at home in 2 seasons.

RE: Sun Belt Coach of the Year
Pains me to say but as of today Elliot. Some luck involved as they do not play two of the other top five teams but they did not make the schedule. If they lose against App I dont think they will have a win against a team with a winning record either but they were those teams last year. I think the guy at ULM has done just a good a job but probably going to get murdered their last three games. Brown is a victim of his own success this year. He should have won it last year but COY awards seemed to have morphed into what coach improved the team over last year award vs who did the best this year award.

Yeah it probably should be Elliot. If Troy beats Arkansas State, then a SBC championship and a win over #25 LSU should get Brown some consideration as well. I believe they give out these awards before bowl season, right?

IF Doug Martin takes the Aggies to a bowl game, he must be it. Lowest paid FBS coach ending the nation's longest bowl drought of 57 years.
