What's the angle here? If this is meant to substitute for a new stadium then that's not going to fly. I don't care what happens to Legion Field as long as the new BJCC stadium gets built.

William Parker, here is the solution to Legion Field. Stop the insanity of throwing more money at Lesion Field.

RE: What's the future use of Birmingham's Legion Field?
You think Birmingham can sustain the new venue and legion, I can tell you know the people of the area and the classic will not let go and release a new venue until Legion is taken care of.

Way too much History with Legion, the people and the classic are not going to put legion away, way to much history with the people and the classic. The new venue and legion, do you think they both can be sustained by Birmingham. ( The new Venue being the new project of the BJCC - and the Stadium Being Legion.) You will have to show them how or it's going to be one or the other. (One being Legion and the other being the new Venue. How can the city put both into both - Better then neither.

Just like the UAB on campus stadium, you guys have been bamboozled into thinking the BJCC project was a "done deal". That phrase should be bannable around here.

The city council is pouring money into Legion Field. That means the city isn't going to put any money into the BJCC project. Time to invest in whatever company operates UAB's bus service

I think clark will find a way to get an OCS even before we change the practice facility and before this bjcc field is built. Just gotta build things up for the other sports first

I think the odds are good that the BJCC field happens. If not, we'll find a way to build one. We'd all far rather have an OCS, and if Clark keeps going the way he has that might become possible. My money is on the BJCC, though.

RE: What's the future use of Birmingham's Legion Field?
As I have said before, until shovel meets dirt no option is "off the table". This includes the MPF as well as a new BJCC stadium and/or the OCS. The City still needs the MPF for year round event activities including sports and conventions. UAB football needs a new stadium so for UAB, all 3 options are acceptable.

IF (note caps) Legion Field is replaced by a new venue, I still like the idea of UAB and the City working out a deal for the whole park (not just the stadium) which is almost the size of the undergrad academic campus now used at UAB so it would about double the UAB undergrad academic campus area. The land is relatively flat so grading costs for whatever use is decided upon will be substantially cheaper than for many southside expansion options.

Land between the two areas might be acquired making them close to contiguous. UAB bus service and perhaps UAB trams like the big amusement parks use might make the two areas very useful and well connected.

The comments on al.com will rot your brain.

Mr. Parker has no idea of the depth of the problems that reside in Legion field, with spalling concrete looming large among them.

I believe it will cover the only proper thing left - implosion.

That's actually pretty typical for the year-to-year "renovation" of LF beyond the yearly maintenance costs anyway..

It takes a lot of cash to paint over the flaking paint & chipping concrete.

As with ANY old building, annual maintenance costs never get less. The longer Legion Field remains the only viable stadium of its size, the more expensive its upkeep will continue to be. That is why most of us don't buy old homes unless we have the skills to do renovations ourselves or the "deep pockets" to pay someone (like the Property Brothers) to do it for us.

Right now, Legion Field is "the only game (site) in the metro area". There are presently three choices to replace it, but none have approached "shovel meets dirt" status.

We spend money every year on LF. I've seen us spend from 500k to three million. Nothing new.

RE: What's the future use of Birmingham's Legion Field?
Wow with all that upkeep seems like a Modern new Stadium could of already have been built but until they do the upkeep has to be done to keep it the viable option otherwise their is nothing and legion is much better then nothing with all the History and all. Sure its still has a adequate infrastructure in it. Soldier Field is still standing and deems to be safe for attendance. Right.
