Strictly judging from box scores ....

Tier 1

Buffalo
Toledo
Bowling Green

Tier 2
Eastern Michigan
Western Michigan
Ball State
Kent State

Tier 3

Ohio
Akron
Central Michigan
Northern Illinois

Tier 4

Miami

Tier 1
Toledo and BG are both strong early and Toledo in particular will only get better when Jackson is eligible ... Buffalo good as well and like UT gets better when PG becomes eligible ... BG strong freshman and sophomore classes

Tier 2

WMU has not hit its stride, but will ... EMU to be tested but shows early signs of a 20-win team ... Ball State loaded with firepower and Kent State seems to be better than expected ...

Tier 3

OU may have too many injuries to be much more than 'any given night' ... Akron looks like a shooters paradise, but not much size on that roster ... CMU and NIU are better than expected ... BUT

RE: Basketball Week 1
I'd put BG somewhere in the middle to lower middle tier range for now. Too young & inexperienced at this point. I do hope they improve to a tier 1 team later this year once Turner & Lillard return and they get more experience. I think Huger's recruiting classes, especially this year's, have been pretty good and will develop into a very good team, but not quite yet. For now they will be up & down.

EMU beats USF 65-47. Very good defensive effort, and our offense came along in the 2nd half. 5'8 freshman Malik Ellison had 11 points, all in the last 6 minutes of the game.

Stupid to recruit a 5’8” guy. I mean, has EMU ever had a guy that short who was successful?

So much for the Miami rebuild happening overnight, we just got killed by an OVC school...

Haha, right? If he's even half as good as Earl Boykins, then I'll be happy. 3 time state champ in high school, and averaged 26 ppg his senior season. We were his only D1 offer. He might make some schools regret that.

I hated Boykins until he left EMU, then I loved him.

Sometimes coaches just recruit players and see who gets it done.

As indicated, Ellison, is talented but short. McAdoo is more typical sized. Both are guard recruits.

We'll see how they pan out. The season is very young. Until last night McAdoo was going better.

That said we need help at SG. Maybe Murphy does what he did last night with THREE point guards, Jackson, Ellison, and Bond.

FGCU had a backup pg 5-2 when they played BG.
