Jimmy Moran's 20 win team (1997-98) won all four meetings between the teams, including back to back wins on Jan 21 (GMU) and Jan 24 (ODU).

Thanks, BillyMac. That Moran and Bracey led team was definitely Charlie's best. If Randy had not gotten hurt, a CAA championship was a definite possibility. Other than the loss in 2014 to Delaware, that team's loss to American was my most painful one as a Tribe alum and fan.
Still, we have not had a lot of traditional success against GMU and ODU, including a few painful losses in the CAA tournament to them. It is always nice to beat the Monarchs and the Patriots.

I think we need BillyMac as a halftime guest on all Tribe radio broadcasts both for knowledge and karma.

Ha! I'd probably have to go back into therapy...

Really, thanks to Jay and Charlie for letting me join them last night. It was my first time back on Press Row since I retired a couple years ago.

The CAA chant, towards the end of the game, was classic.

I was a little surprised that the W&M crowd wasn't a little bigger. That is such a strong area for alumni, I definitely expected a larger crowd. However, I will say, the ones that came were very vocal. Good job.

I understand the Alumni get together, at Brion's, also had a very small crowd. I know it was during rush hour, but it sounds like you could have had a private audience with Ms. Huge. (Guess it's just as well I didn't go. 03-wink)

Im not that surprised. Any away game in an area heavily populated with alums (NOVA/NJ/HRoads etc) should probably be highlighted more than usual in some sort of mailer/email. I dont think the avg alum follows Tribe sports as much as we'd all like and sometimes it takes a reminder that they are going to be in their backyard, so dont miss the opportunity. None of my NOVA friends were aware that the Mason game was happening.

Good 72-70 win by Drexel today at LaSalle for another win over the A-10 for the conference.

Elon acting like last year W&M in away games got crushed @UNCG. Elon is 6-0 at home and 0-4 away

Crushed is an understatement, 75-44.
Elon had to go OT for three of their 4 home wins and the 4th was non-D1. They have 2 wins on a neutral court (1 non-D1). Despite the players/experience which returned, they did not look as strong (least not yet) as last year's team in the games I have watched.

Congrats to Drexel on getting that Philly win. Long overdue for the Big Five to officially become the Big Six and include Drexel in the annual round robin.

They definitely do not include Drexel in that. For years we played Penn and St Joes and that was it. Ocassionally we play LaSalle or Temple. Villanova stopped playing Drexel after '07's defeat until Drexel had one of its worst teams ever and still have not since then. This just happened to be a home and home series with LaSalle. Still a huge win for Drexel and its first non conference road win in almost a year. We do have Temple on the road but that was a 1 year deal from what I understand.

The loss to American ranks up there with the loss to JMU in '83 as the worst moments for me in my years of Indians (Tribe) fandom.

I agree with your choices for the 1 and 2 of biggest basketball disappointments.

For biggest basketball shafts, I list 3:

1. Non-call on the charge at the end of the championship game against Delaware.

2. Terrible homer officiating in the last minutes of the NIT game against UNC, allowing them to come back and win.

3. A late season CAA game against VCU where we came back and had all the momentum. It went to overtime and suddenly Quinn McDowell, who had had, like, only 2 fouls all game, suddenly got 3 straight fouls called on him on three straight trips up the floor. He fouls out on phantom calls and VCU pulled out the win. I hate those guys.

Was that the game against VCU when we were up 4 with seconds to play, and inexplicably fouled them... the VCU shooter then hit the first, missed the second one on purpose so that a rebounder could punch the ball out to a shooter who drained a 3? We then collapsed in overtime. That game was probably mid-2000s... I'm sure BillyMac remembers that one better.

Other than the word "overtime" it doesn't sound the same. Either way, I must have purged those brain cells from my memory (in order to keep my sanity) since I didn't remember that.

One of many etched forever into my brain over the years...

One reason that long time Tribe alumni are eligible for time off in purgatory...

YES, that's the one!! I watched Shaver's post game interview. At one point he was talking about freshman Marcus Thornton and said that he "had a chance to be a really good player". Right on, Tony!

TCU beat #22 Nevada last night, 84-80. With one token game this week against winless Texas Southern, they will be 11-0 going into our game next Friday. The longest winning streak in the country.

If they beat TSU, which they should, the streak will be at 16 straight, when the Tribe comes to call.

Watched the JMU-UR game. JMU's rebounding was impressive. Moseley's early foul trouble and 13 minutes on the bench in the first half may have been the difference. Neither team was all that impressive.

There are 12 D1 schools playing mbb in VA outside the CAA in 6 different conferences. I'd love to see the Tribe play half or more of them each year.

Despite how young and inexperienced this JMU team is, this is a bad loss for them. Richmond is awful. Had to have been an ugly game to watch.

ODU blasted Bowling Green last night and Marshall beat Toledo on the road. Both teams looking solid. UCF continues to win.

The first half was extremely ugly (28-28), but the second half had some pretty good ball.

The Dukes are allowing opponents to shoot 40% from 3. Which means you all will shoot 55%. I enjoyed your ODU win.
