In Friday action:
Drexel picked up a win over Houston
Elon beat FIU in 3OTs
Hofstra lost to Clemson by near 20

On the tourney side, I saw a few clips of the Jamaica tourney. Not sure who all is in that one but it looks depressing, playing games in an empty and dark gym, smaller than most high schools. I like these tourneys though maybe better the stateside ones where people actually attend.

It's incredibly early, of course, but W&M is back in its familiar spot of being last in the CAA at defensive efficiency per KenPom.

What's the saying about things that are a constant? Death, taxes, and W&M having the worst defense in the CAA.

High Point blew a 15 point lead at home against The Citadel last night, losing 79-77 and falling to 1-2.

JMU gets swept in the Bahamas Tourney, losing all three games. Now 1-4.

One thing to remember whenever we are tempted to torture ourselves over being scorned by the prima donna referred to above. If he had indeed come to the Tribe, there would have been no scholarship available to give to Matt Milon. I will take Milon and his sweet stroke any day over some kid who probably jilted us because the used car salesman at Hofstra promised him that he would be given every chance to be the star of the team from day one.

CAA went 4-1 today, only Charleston lost to Cal Poly in Alaska Shootout.

Towson won the Gulf Coast Tourney sweeping three games - beating Georgia Southern in the championship game today. They are looking like the leader at the moment, now 5-1. Their only loss was their opener at ODU.

High Point up 29-22 at the half against CofC at Charleston. High Point’s defense has CofC playing one-on-one with no team flow.

HPU plays extremely good man-to-man. I didn’t get to see our game against them but with that defense, in that snake pit of a gym, I can totally see them blowing us out.

CofC pulling away: 66-50. Too much experience, size and Chealey. And then they got hit from the 3.

Ohio State rallues from 13 down to beat Michigan tonight. Hopefully they will overlook us Saturday. They held Michigan to 18 points in the 2nd half.

OSU played very aggressive defense in second half and Michigan couldn't find the hoop and made lots of bad passes. Buckeyes have a very solid big man and a very smart point guard.

We have a chance to compete in this road game.

#20 TCU extended their longest winning streak in the nation to 14 tonight with a win over crosstown rival SMU (who had previously beaten #14 USC and then #2 Arizona.) Only other real hurdle before our game is a neutral court matchup with #22 Nevada in LA on Friday night. Good chance they will still have the winning streak going when we pay a visit on the 22nd.

I hope that they do still have the winning streak going when we play them.

I’ve seen Nevada recently. They start 5 guys at 6’6 or 6’7 and they can play. If TCU handles them, be careful for what you wish. There’s something about going into these Big 10 and Big 12 arenas. It’s difficult to put you finger on, but easy to quantify after 40 minutes.

I expect the Tribe will lose by decent margins at Ohio St. and TCU. But, the first 5 games of the conference slate are critical. We get Hofstra at home and end it with JMU at home. In the middle are 3 road games which we need to win. The potential exists for a good start before facing any of the top contenders.

The team continues to improve and may continue to surprise.

I'm hoping not to get blown out by either OSU or TCU. I really don't want to play either with them needing to prove a point. I also would like them to be highly ranked. I still care about RPI, even though the CAA is a 1 bid conference.

Yeah RPI definitely still important, as that can be a major factor for seeding whenever we knock down the door.

I agree completely wrt RPI. Currently at 285 of 351, we have lots of room to grow. Let’s start tonight.
