We need the AAC to have a great non-conference to help the perception of the league. UConn has some young talent and some are thinking they could be a sleeper, so hopefully they start hot to get some momentum in case they get it going in conference play. Want them to help and not hinder the conference.

Outside of Cal and Worldwide Wes, he is the worst thing to ever happen to college basketball.

Seems between all 4 teams out of Kansas, Duke, Michigan State and Kentucky, three point shooting is at a premium.
I noticed all 4 are long and athletic though.

Not that impressed. I know KU is missing their big freshman Preston, but still. I thinknboth of these teams are more in the 10-20 range if anything.

Kansas has barely run any offense. Just a lot of Graham taking bad shots.

Vitale is a lot like Corso... Guys who were not great coaches, and who got popular in the 90's with a bad schtick and just wont go away.

can't be that bad of a schtick. he wasn't a bad coach, he was a successful college coach who moved up the ranks. in his broadcasting career (if that's what it's called) i think you gotta give him some credit for helping promote the image of college basketball nationwide. you knew you were playing a marquee game if he was announcing and listen to him fawn over your team

One NCAA tournament win in 4 years of college coaching followed by 94 games in the NBA is not exactly what I would call a great coaching career. Vitale has been annoying since I started following basketball in the late 90's.

Vitale was awesome back in the 90s. The problem is he has just stuck around to long and became a caricature of himself.

The fact that he is still tweeting that Rick Pitino is getting railroaded is ridiculous (note: I realize Mick has been supportive of his former mentor, but his support has been more the lines of "his thoughts and prayers are with Coach Pitino" vs. Dickie V. saying that Coach Pitino is getting screwed over).

not a great career, but not a bad one. people obviously still adore the man. and one things for certain, you cannot deny his enthusiasm for the game. he's like college basketball's version of richard simmons

Vitale was terrible last night. He just needs to go away.

Back to the actual basketball though, UConn looks to be bad again this year. Two wins are dandy but they show the same signs of being incredibly limited offensively as years past. I know we need UConn to be great again for the league, but few things are more satisfying than seeing Ollie's face as we pummel them.

RE: College Hoops 2018 Season Thread
I listened to the last few minutes of Cronin's show last night and if I heard it correctly, Dan Hoard reported that Seth Greenberg had shared his Final Four picks on air that included Cincinnati. And further, Greenberg went on to pick Cincy to win it all. Pretty heady stuff--actually made me cringe a little at first. Hearing "Cincinnati" and "Championship" in the same sentence is a shock to our systems after the long dry spell around these parts.

But after further thought I decided it's all good. All here want UC to be high profile again; we're historically elite and this is simply getting back in the spotlight after a massive rebuild. And it certainly can't hurt that UC and WSU will shine a spotlight on the AAC this season.

Finally, while I don't believe conference movement as imminent, I'd rather UC be the top dog in this conference in basketball (and football) as much as possible. We know UCONN football won't take their school to the P5 promised land and if their basketball falters some it makes their case a little tougher still, if and when a slot opens.

Bad or good college coach is relative. One NCAA win, no Conf CH's or Coach of the Year honors. An NBA record of 34-60. Seems he was inducted to the CBHOF due to the length of his broadcasting career.

He does promote college basketball though. If you happen to be from Duke, Kansas, KY, Pitino or associated with the ACC. He should have went the way of the buggy a long time ago.
