Good for App. Hey, just trying to figure if their has been injuries, I was surprised at the last two weeks results. That is not teams App typically loses too.

Yes a lot of injuries on offense and defense. Starting a lot of freshman, OL lost a lot of senior leadership to graduation. Having said that: you'd be hard pressed to find someone that would not say we have underperformed this year.

Of course they're not. They'll never understand, or be willing to admit, how much Athletics does for the betterment of the school.

They live in a bubble of academia, cannot feasibly listen nor learn from the savages at the athletics side of the house. Ignorance is bliss, but it's an undeniable fact our athletics profile has raised our academic profile as a university. This donation speaks volumes to that narrative by itself.

Are they upset that the money isn't going towards their department, or would they just rather Mr. Ricks keep his money than see any go to athletics?

Probably yes to both.

They are the equality everywhere types, especially when the donation is made specifically for something they disagree with or can't understand. It's not fair their feelings have been upset by the facts once again.

I’m hopeful we’re dis using the minority here.

Chancellors office and various college deans aren’t bashful about using athletic facilities to host potential donors for academic causes.

When Bob Snead was the VC for Development he was determined to keep athletics in their place. He was vehemently opposed to App going 1-A back in the day, but used most every seat in the Chancellor's Box during football games to raise money for things other than athletics. That guy is probably mostly responsible for App Football remaining 1-AA/FCS for so long.

Congrats on your Third Straight Bowl. Two favorite NC teams now have the longest bowl streaks, NCSU and App.

And outside of town as well. There's a current of anti-ASU among the smaller communities around Boone. These people want Boone to be their small mountain town with no college students or change.

It's a vocal minority. When push comes to shove, they admit that athletics can be a pretty good front porch for a university's academic mission.

Boone sits in a valley. Flat land is not as rare there as you would think. In addition, the school recently purchased the land the old Watauga HS sat on. I dont claim to be in the know, but I’ve heard mention of the possibility of putting the track there.
A valley that's almost entirely developed. I can't think of very many places that are flat, developable, and campus adjacent.

I dated Don's niece in college, maybe I could get her to make a call...lol

The people of Boone need to visit Detroit and other rust belt towns. Without the university that’s what Boone would become.

They don't even have to leave the region. Without App Boone would be just another podunk town with 2nd homes and rental cabins like Newland, Linville, etc.

Please do. Don has done a lot for App's baseball program over the years.
