AP and Coaches polls and CFP
Once again, the CFP was in complete agreement with the top 4 of the AP and coaches polls. That makes it 16 for 16 in four years.
And not only did they select the same 4 teams, the order was the same as well.

RE: AP and Coaches polls and CFP
Even if it didn't, really doesn't matter. AP and Coaches are placeholders until the first CFP poll. Most coaches contracts are getting bonuses for CFP final standing not AP or Coaches as they get updated.

Yes, but it is pretty remarkable that they mirror each other.

Not really. I think if you studied it, you would find they start to converge after the first CFP poll.
The coaches and AP are much more similar than they used to be. They see what the others do and it influences them.

Problem here is that e.g. on Sunday, the AP and Coaches polls came out before the CFP, so if there was any influence, it was the polls on the CFP, not the CFP on the polls.

Problem here is that e.g. on Sunday, the AP and Coaches polls came out before the CFP, so if there was any influence, it was the polls on the CFP, not the CFP on the polls.
And that has been the case since the first reveal show. Some posters have suggested that the polls are similar because they are reacting to the committee. But you are right - that's not possible. The reality is they are all looking at the same data, and there are more Top 10 vs Top 10 matchups than there used to be.
And the convergence of the polls occurs way earlier than the first CFP ranking. As early as Week 4 the AP and Coaches Top 10 were virtually identical, while the CFP didn't chime in until six weeks later. And 7 of the AP Top 10 in Week 4 were still Top 10 at the end.
