WRC - I'll be curious if you can comment on how you're able to compare relative strengths of teams between years, for the purpose of the list you're going to put together. How does a -10 in your system (if such a rating exists) compare from year to year?
There are weird, unexplained games each season. Arkansas is mediocre, but never should have allowed Coastal Carolina to almost pull off the upset. But, Troy defeated L.S.U. in Baton Rouge this season.
There is some subjectivity in comparing season to season, because each year is a closed system. For the Rice list, I just used numbers, so within each close grouping (2003, 2011, 2002, for example) I could move the order around. But, this year's number (as well as that on the good side for 2008) is so extreme that it had to be placed dead last.
So, my list of "worst teams" won't be in order - I'll list in groups. But, I did notice that two seasons (2013 and 2017) seemed to produce large numbers of bad teams.
Group One (worst)
2011 Akron (1-11) ---> 120th/120
2009 Western Kentucky (0-12) ---> 120th/120
2013 Georgia State (0-12) ---> 125th/125
2009 Eastern Michigan (0-12) ---> 119th/120
2010 Akron (1-11) ---> 120th/120
2006 Florida International (0-12) ---> 119th/119
2017 Coastal Carolina (1-8) ---> 130th/130
2013 Miami (O) (0-12) ---> 124th/125
2017 Georgia Southern (0-8) ---> 129th/130
