The number "130" keeps appearing here - is that the number of FBS schools?
Who are our other neighbors at the bottom of the standings?

RE: College Football Rankings - November 4
I have my own records back to 2001. The older years are somewhere in storage. I have had the same rating system over the years, and therefore, I can use those numbers to rank the past 17 seasons (2017 would be the 17th). Here is what I have. Remember that the order of best to first is NOT based upon how Rice ranked; however, it is based upon the system of numbers I have used for 30 years:

B=Bailiff
H=Hatfield
G=Graham

Note: 2017 is so much worse than 2009 that it hardly belongs on the same list.

1st of all, as I have said before, I believe that the Massey Composite Computer Rankings are more accurate than Massey's own rating system. My rating won't appear as part of the Massey "Borg Collective" until tomorrow, as I just sent it to him less than an hour ago.

Here are my bottom 10, from worst to 10th worst:

130. Coastal Carolina (1-8)
129. Georgia Southern (0-8)
128. U.T.E.P. (0-9)
127. Texas State (2-7)
126. San Jose State (1-9)
125. Ball State (2-7)
124. Charlotte (1-8)
123. Rice (1-8)
122. Kent State (2-7)
121. Idaho (3-6)

When I have a little time, I will list the worst teams in college football over the past 17 seasons.

And to beat Antarius to the punch, Coastal Carolina gave Arkansas all it could handle. Could this Rice squad have done the same?

WRC - I'll be curious if you can comment on how you're able to compare relative strengths of teams between years, for the purpose of the list you're going to put together. How does a -10 in your system (if such a rating exists) compare from year to year?

There are weird, unexplained games each season. Arkansas is mediocre, but never should have allowed Coastal Carolina to almost pull off the upset. But, Troy defeated L.S.U. in Baton Rouge this season.

There is some subjectivity in comparing season to season, because each year is a closed system. For the Rice list, I just used numbers, so within each close grouping (2003, 2011, 2002, for example) I could move the order around. But, this year's number (as well as that on the good side for 2008) is so extreme that it had to be placed dead last.

So, my list of "worst teams" won't be in order - I'll list in groups. But, I did notice that two seasons (2013 and 2017) seemed to produce large numbers of bad teams.

Group One (worst)

2011 Akron (1-11) ---> 120th/120
2009 Western Kentucky (0-12) ---> 120th/120
2013 Georgia State (0-12) ---> 125th/125
2009 Eastern Michigan (0-12) ---> 119th/120
2010 Akron (1-11) ---> 120th/120
2006 Florida International (0-12) ---> 119th/119
2017 Coastal Carolina (1-8) ---> 130th/130
2013 Miami (O) (0-12) ---> 124th/125
2017 Georgia Southern (0-8) ---> 129th/130

Probably not. Then again, I have no idea how CC did it.

Currently we are actually dead last (130) in one ranking in the "Borg." I wonder what particular miserable aspect(s) of our results are weighted there to put us below all the other dregs. Our highest ranking btw is 116.

Good eye.

I just went to that person's website. He listed Rice at 0-9 and UTEP at 1-8. I sent him an email to ask him to correct this error. I suspect that Rice will climb out of #130 on his rating.

Please... even if I did have one, I wouldn't need to resort to mistakes to show how terrible we are. The data lays it out so so perfectly.

I'm surprised. 250 former players signed that letter to keep Bailiff and that's close to half our fan base left.

I wonder how many current players would sign such a letter? just a thought.....
