This kind of reminds me of my High School - Tucker High. To the students when I was in school, Godwin was our #1 rival. But Godwin and Freeman viewed each other as their rival. My senior year they started calling our annual game against Hermitage "The Cat Bowl" and had a trophy made. We were all like "okay I guess (this was back before Herm was a state powerhouse)". I do remember the first Cat Bowl was a shootout and back and forth affair. We won on the last play and rushed halfway onto the field before being like wait why are we doing this.

Former Hermitage Panther, long before it was known as Herm. Didn't know that Tucker had a football team.

All in good fun. My son graduated from Tucker, they weren't too fond of Deep Run kids.

I think deep run started after I graduated. Actually I would have gone to Deep Run if I was younger. Makes sense.

Played football at Freeman. Tucker and Highland Springs were our big rivals in the late 70's - early 80's. I believe Godwin opened my final year at Freeman. Our 1977 team was 12-1 and we lost 7-0 in the state semifinals to eventual state champ Hampton. Talk about a good defense, we allowed only 42 points in 13 games.

I think Godwin opened in '80 or somewhere thereabouts. I started there in '84...had a great team that year, lost the perfect reg season in the finale to a mediocre Tucker team. That one still baffles me. Our QB was Greg Lancaster who as I recall went on to have a disastrous career at...JMU

Then you know Ron Axselle. He was my OL coach a few years before that at Henrico. He was at Godwin when they opened and has quite a legacy there, but he actually had a life before that.

I just realized how my post reads...I meant I started high school there in '84, didn't start for the team in '84. I'm 5'4" and weigh a buck-oh-five, I was too small to be the friggin' waterboy lol. I do remember Axselle though
