What would be lower than Thursday's attendance? The winless years of the 90s? If NIU only drew like 3K for a nice weather day like EMU there should be sections empty on Thursday.

I remember those games in DeKalb, horrible.

I went to the FIU game here in Miami on last Saturday night. 70 degrees, cloudless sky.....and maybe 7K in the stands. It was the same night as the UM game, but FIU is a big school (40K) and the student section was empty, and I mean empty. The students come to tailgate, then leave.

Must be the fashion today: party, get drunk, act like animals, and to hell with football. Nice.

Has NIU given up on trying too get students to attend games for a quarter to a half?

I think that was Southwestern Louisiana (now called Louisiana-Lafayette), something like 11-2-1991. Record cold, and we lost.

I have been to a lot of places, but I have never felt a place colder than DeKalb. Whatever the temperature is, you need to deduct at least 10 degrees for real feel, and even more if it's windy. When I was in school at NIU, my mustache would crack off from the frigid cold, the snow would blow sideways, and the wind once picked me up and blew me across Annie Glidden (and I am far from light).

Does anyone know if NIU keeps a record of coldest games? I wonder where that 2013 WMU game would fit. 2004 vs Toldeo (The game missed because of the fight) was another real cold one.

BSU is a special kind of disaster this season. You can win by more than 31, it’ll just be a question of how early Carey calls off the dogs (so to speak).

Brutal cold that day. Worst I've ever seen at HS. If I'm remembering correctly, it was between two teams that had one win between them. I could be off a little, but rest assured, that game had no bearing on the national championship.

Was like that in the 70s too. Some traditions never die.

It was Arkansas State.

When I went to the BC game this year a student/bartender had mentioned some new restrictions the school placed on tailgating. Apparently if you are under 21 you can’t enter the tailgate area. You also cant stand on truck beds, however when I walked by they still were doing that. They did have the area fenced off and were checking IDs.

To be honest they should allow liquor sales on the student side. Most of those who are of age will go to the bars or parties after the tailgate. Incentive of alcohol at the game will get them to come in and they possibly might not get blacked out before the game if they could keep drinking when they get in.

Yeah I’ve been in the student tailgate before every game this year and none of this is true lol

It would be great if students could tailgate only AFTER the game, with proof that they attended the game. Attend the game, and you can drink yourself unconscious afterwards. The East side would be standing room only for the game. 02-13-banana

One thing about this year, the NIU coaches must have listened to this board....

They're throwing to the tight end. 02-13-banana

The MAC should put aside several thousand dollars per weeknight game to compensate the University for the lost seating relative to a Saturday night game.

Ideas for Incentives for students and fans:
1) Free blanket per fan. Or at leat have blankets on hand to give either the older fans or to two student fans.
2) Students get a blanket and free coffee or soda per game.
3) Employ one hundred NIU students at $10/hour to hand out free coffee and free soda. If nothing else we will get hundred student and their buddies to the game.
4) Blackout the Local television coverage to encourage more people to attend.
5) Charge more money and put on more irritating repetitive advertisements on local television. (Makes it harder to watch!)
6) Arrange for ,'tailgating' during the game with companies.
7) Try get as many alumni to fit in the press box.

Am sure this esteemed board will either refine or come up with better suggestions.

NIU gave out rally towels and visors earlier this year. Any giveaway on Thursday?

Great suggestions.
Keep on making more.

What about a way to cram students in the press boxes and the sports center to watch the game in a heated environment?

Weather forecast looking worse today.

Temps will be dropping from 35 degrees, wind chills in 20s, at 1 pm throughout tailgating with NNW winds at 15 mph gusting to 25 mph out of the NNW.

Temps down to 27 degrees with 17 degree wind chill at kick. Winds subside to 10 mph out of north blowing from the north end zone to south end zone. There will NOT be a northwesterly component which can limit wind exposure on the west side.

Temps down to 20 degrees with 9 degree wind chill by end of game! Pretty close to the WMU game in 2013 on Jordan Lynch's senior night!

With that being said, I am undeterred and will still be tailgating starting at 1 pm! May cut out by end of 3Q if the game is well in hand!

No offense, but anyone who would sit outside at night in that weather has a few screws loose.
