Iowa Trick Play---Please Help
If anyone saw the Iowa--Ohio State game, can someone explain to me, by rule, how the long snapper is an eligible receiver on the fake field goal that they ran?

Is it because he's #97? That can't be it.
Would he have had to report eligible to the ref?

I don't think I've seen that since backyard football when you snap the ball, let the rusher by you and the QB floats it over his head.

I know we have some rules knowledgeable people on here.

Thanks!

I believe he was the outside man on the line of scrimmage. The punter and others to the right of the "center/end" were off the line of
scrimmage.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, the snapper was lined up at the end of the line which was the same as a tight end and he had an eligible number. Since he was on the LOS i don’t think he had to check with the ref.

This. Except you don't have to "report" as an ineligible at End position in CFB (that's an NFL thing) - if you have an ineligible number, you're ineligible for a forward pass, period.

Thanks all—I guess looking at it again—all the guys at the top of the screen were on the line of scrimmage and everyone to the bottom of the screen and the snapper were off the line, making the snapper the end of the line—thus eligible. Seems like a genius design since it worked so easily.

Thanks again for the answers.

That was an awesome game BTW. It was so fun to see Ohio State get spanked. And Urban's face at times...priceless!
