To be an offensive coordinator in the National Football League.

Sometimes I don't know if you people are kidding or serious.

RE: Monken
Come on.

He was offered 200% pay raise and a chance to be an offensive coordinator in the National Football League.

Many P5 coaches would jump at that opportunity, folks. And every CUSA coach would jump at that opportunity.

3 year coach before university, awesome position Shifty. 2 losing seasons out of 3, again great position Shifty. You wonder if some are serious or whatever, well, some wonder the same regarding your position. By all means bring this guy back. Our savior.

I like the guy but he’s not that great and has shown character flaws

He could walk on water and you'd say "that guy can't swim".

RE: Monken
Being butthurt about Monken leaving is how we got this SWAC staff. Same thing with Fedora and EJ. We get all mad about coaches leaving then hire some unqualified coach that we think will be loyal but ends up sucking.

Monken inherited a program with less than 60 scholarship players. That's insane for an FBS program. He had us back winning in 3 years. Not only that, he's the only person I've seen that united our fanbase. Hopson took a team that was projected to win CUSA and went 6-6. This year we would have a losing record if it wasn't for a fluke miracle in Ruston.

If we have the slightest chance in getting him, you have to make the call. At the very least to gauge his interest. Our program is dying. There will be less than 10k actual butts in the seats vs Charlotte. We desperately need a shot in the arm. Monken would deliver that.

Beagle, although I disagree at least you supported your position which was my original question; why. Butthurt I’m not, equivalent of me saying someone is butthappy for Monk. Are you butthappy? Of course joking but you get the point. As mentioned, I enjoyed Monken during his tenure.

Anywho, is what it is. ‘The reality is’ he isn’t coming back and most likely not interested coming back. The NFL label he now carries will open doors.

RE: Monken
Y'all are all nuts if you think Monken would come back here if they run all of Tampa's Coaches. First he would likely get a gig in the NFL immediately that pays more than what he would get here. Also, if he does return to college, he would at least get a OC job at a big school for double what he would make as HC here. Most likely he would take a lower tier or possibly higher P5 HC job. I could see him as a HC in the Big 12 easy.

I want Lane Kiffen. Y'all are retarded if you can't see the positive pub that it's given FAU. FAU!

We are grasping at straws now anyways to stay in D1, may as well grasp at some that can pay dividends (i.e. not retread SWAC coaches from ole miss).

We should hire Houston Nutt just to piss off ole miss! Or Les Miles. F*ck why not??? It's all about being in the media.

WE CERTAINLY CAN'T DO ANY WORSE BUT THE FROG & PONY CHURCH CROWD IN HATTIESBURG WILL NEVER LET THAT HAPPEN WILL THEY

And he will beat our ass in recruiting all day long while they are on the death penalty (basically). All because of his snarky twitter/ESPN/Joey Freshwater persona is DAMN GOOD PR.

All while he could have been our coach this year (or last). Instead of SWACmumbles 2.0

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Crap, who am I kidding. I half want him to be the next Florida coach just to see the TN fans I know implode. I just know he could have been a good coach at USM. Close enough to the casinos & New Orleans, get him some rub & tugs with the good Coast message parlors, lots of cougars in Hattiesburg & the Coast. (ALABAMA, TN, USC pedigree)

He'd last 2 years & be just fine (FEDORA). Certainly not any worse than this guy we now have from Alcorn State (lifetime BOWER, SEE YOU IN D2 OR RETIRED) but might get us a little more airtime for future recruits to pick up the slack.

There's a lot of slack. We don't have time, energy or money for slack unless we say " Fu@k it. " I saw a lot of that this weekend in Knoxville.

RE: Monken
Monken deserves credit for the rebuild. He inherited the worst team in FBS. The 2015 season was actually fun to watch. We beat the teams we were supposed to beat, usually badly. The losses ranged from competitive to close against teams that were are all pretty good.

In the season and a half since, even the wins have been mostly frustrating to watch. Defense has gotten a lot better this year so credit where it's due. But the turnovers, non-stop penalties, and ineffective offense make it hard to watch.

ETA: I feel bad for Ito and Staggers that this is how it ends. Felt bad for Mullens last year.

RE: Monken
I'm often left wondering what could have been. What if DeAndre Brown had stayed for his Senior year? Would he have played, probably not much, but even having him on the field was a gigantic threat that other teams had to respect. Having him on the field against Marshall and UAB that year could have made us undefeated. What if Fedora had stayed? Could he have been our Gary Patterson? Would we have been invited to the AAC because we didn't crap the bed for three years straight after? What if Monken had stayed? Would he be seen as our savior? Could last year have been a Championship season or even more? What if Tyndall had stayed? People keep getting their small payments and don't rat him out, so he continues to be a superstar to all USM fans. We probably have been in the NCAA tournament a couple times by now as well.

A lot of what ifs with USM sports. Wish some of those What Ifs would come true.
