Winner winner, chicken dinner.

We currently have none of the above. Fixing this is a million times more important than whether we run the wishbone, flexbone, air raid or just run the ball up the middle.

What we need to emulate about Navy is not necessarily their offensive scheme, but their intensity, focus, preparation, and execution. Without those things, offensive scheme means nothing. With them, pretty much any scheme could be made to work.

Bingo.

Its the same reason people here shudder when we try trick plays. We can't execute an option pitch 100% of the time, our crazy trickery is sure to fail.

Option, no option - doesn't matter. Just do it right.

1996 Michael Perry, Chad Nelson, Chad Richardson ran the option over 90% of the time.

7-4 Record

Opponents put 8 in the Box and we still picked 3+ yards per carry.

Not the most "exciting" offense. But it worked.

The wishbone/veer offense narrows the competitive advantage held by schools with better players. There must be a great defense to keep the score low.

Frankly the 97 team's offense was very exciting when it was working, which was most of the time. Will always remember going for and often converting 3rd or 4th and longs via the outside option. Ask the TU fans sometime if they remember.

Is a long incomplete pass more "exciting" than a terrific outside option play?

1997 was my freshman year. I thought the off bee was dreadfully boring because I could never figure out who had the ball. In fact, that is why I was not a bigger fan of Rice football when I was actually a student!

I never really understood this. I pretty much knew where the ball was going. Then again, I played in an option offense in high school, so that may have helped me.

The ideas that the defense doesn't know where the ball is going. But that's harder to see on the field than from the stands.

The wishbone fooled me many times from my seat in the stands. It was fun to watch when it was working right.
