RE: A Name we should all start looking at......
If we wait a few more years and Mehringer does have what it takes, it will be too late for Rice. Not saying he is or should be the guy. But Rice switches coaches every decade or so and the next hire is a big decision.

We need to be faster to cut ties. But ideally we’ll Hire someone who is good and will then get hired away in three years.

What about Troy Walters - UCF Offensive Coordinator. He is a former letterman from Stanford and has had some good stints as WR coaches and OC.

I like Stewart a lot but hiring someone off the Bailiff staff send a very wrong message.
I think Stewart is a step up from Driesbach and the other yahoos we had, but I'm not convinced he's it. I mean, Pitt, army, LaTech scored 40+, Stanford scored 60+ and UH could've scored 100 easy; they scored 35 effortlessly and stopped.
We put on a decent defensive showing against UTSA this far. FIU and UTEP are horrible. The others could have scored a lot more.
The defense actually knows what it's doing this year (for the first time in years). Any limitations are due to lack of personnel, not to coaching. I had heard in the spring that Stewart identified Womac as an impact player, if placed into a better position. This has proven true, to a great extent. Also, losing Padgett to injury was a huge detriment.
I have to disagree, especially in light of the UAB game. We looked lost on the field. we had guys who just didn't turn around to make a play.
Rice is now 127th in Defense in the country, only leading powerhouses ECU, ULM and San Jose State.
