SBC able to fill Bowl slots?
It looks ike 3 teams are locks with a 4th basically a lock...then the rest of the conference is struggling. Is there an easy schedule for a 3-5 team to get bowl eligible or could this really be an issue?

Also... Whats up with the new Frisco Bowl? Does the sbc plan on sending its best team to play an AAC middler? Or will the league champ be in Mobile?

We could short one.

We have no tie to Frisco

We have no idea where the champ will go.

Are you sure? Wiki says at large but plans for SBC in 2017 and 2019... it's the old Miami beach bowl.

https://www.google.com/amp/collegefootba...-2017-2018

Id say ditch that Zona computer bowl.

I think NMSU should win either 3 or 4 of their remaining games and would be the Arizona Bowl rep if they can do so.

They’ve certainly got the schedule left to pull it off.

Wiki lies When the original plans were drawn up, the SBC was supposed to fill both Miami and the Bahamas this year, but the G5 leagues abandoned plans for bowls to rotate soon after Probably due to how easy it got at the time to certify a bowl. SBC has 5 bowl tie ins

Plus, the Zona Bowl is now on CBSSN, and I don't know if you've ever seen a bowl on CBSSN, but they do a far better job covering it than ESPN does any of theirs. We played an entire bowl game last year and the word "Alabama" was mentioned exactly one time.

As for whether one of the 3-5's can get eligible. The odds seem to believe so:

USA 3-5: Hosts ULL, AState, plays @ Southern, and @ NMSU South will be favored in two of those four games, leaving the @ NMSU game important

ULL 3-4: @ USA, @ Ole Miss, vs NMSU, vs Southern, @ App. Probably only favored in one game, but with both South and NMSU left, has the ability to steal both

NMSU: 3-5 @ TXST, @ ULL, vs Idaho, vs USA Aggies should be favored in every game the rest of the way, but if they slip up against ULL or USA, it could put those teams in line for a bowl instead.

If they're not filling a BCS bowl spot on the biggest national stage ... who really cares lol. I thought Troy had a chance but that quickly went away.

I so hate these no-name bowls with little to no significance ... there's way too many just for teams to say I made it to a bowl which is not a real accomplishment.

SBC gets prestige and money for every bowl win, so you better become a fan fast.

If you don't like it, go join the Southland.

I disagree. I looked at the ratings and attendance over the years and the truth is no one really watches these no-name bowl games and the attendance is lackluster. And once you factor the expenses associated with making it to the bowl game (hotels, food, bus, flight, etc), the payout is even smaller than what was announced.

People only care about those who make the Big Four which leads to the national championship and huge payouts. Everything else is a wash and pity prize.

You're making us look bad.

Those bowls rank the G5. The highest rated G5 gets the most money. #2 gets the second most, and on down to C-USA at #5. So yes, they do get prestige and money.

If you had a football team, it would be a bigger deal.

You guys are right. This can be annoying when we point this out in an athletic discussion.

My team is a no name by all accounts of the P5 and we have been in a top 10 ranked bowl game in our past 3 seasons...4 of 5, and 5 of 6 appearances.
Camelia vs. App State 2016
Boca raton vs. Temple 2015
GoDaddy vs. stAte 2014
Millitary Bowl vs. AFA 2011
Little Caesars Bowl vs. FIU 2010

Pretty random bowls against pretty random opponents, but offense has made for terrific and strange games which caught the eye of the people watching.

NFL players make huge debuts in these games for a national audience.

Should their be less games? Yep. Shut out the G5 except for 1 team? You are high!!!

I would be okay with 7-5 being the new eligible bench mark though. Its tough to do that when SOS differs so much from 1 team to the next.
