<span style='color:blue'>If it's June, it must be time for Billy Donovan to start getting commitments.

The Florida basketball coach landed his first of the 2004 senior class Tuesday night when point guard Taurean Green decided to become a Gator.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Green is a true point guard at Boca Raton Westminster Academy and considered to be one of the top prospects in the Southeast at that position.

He is the son of former UNLV star and current Florida Atlantic coach Sidney Green. Green and Donovan played together briefly with the New York Knicks.

"Taurean always said he wanted to be a Gator," Sidney Green said. "Especially since Coach Donovan took over the program. I showed him the tape of a couple of years ago where Billy's team spanked our FAU team by 60 points. I told Taurean to forget about watching us, just watch their style of play.

"His dream was to play at a big school and I respect that decision. This is good for him and it's good for our family. It's a perfect fit for him."

Not only did Donovan have a connection with Green, but Sidney's daughter LaShawn is a rising sophomore at Florida. As a result, Taurean has seen plenty of the campus, but a recent visit cemented his decision to play for Florida.

"He went to camp and toured the campus from a different point of view," Sidney said of his son.

Although schools like Miami, Florida State and Ohio State were considered in the running for Green, his father said the final decision didn't come down to two or three schools.

Instead, it was simply Florida.

"He was being recruited by several Big 10 and SEC schools," Green said. "But he's always followed the Florida program. He didn't really narrow it down. He just wanted to be a Gator.

"They're getting a young man who makes everyone around him play better. He's a real competitor. He doesn't like to lose. He's a winner."
