Top Quarterback
I’m not totally mad that NIU lost tonight. Barring major injuries they will continue to improve. Childers will get better. At the end of the day though the MAC has always belonged to the team with the best QB play. This year the MAC stud quarterback is Logan Woodside. Best Quarterback we faced all year. Exposed our secondary as a stud Quarterback does.Toledo will probably win it all assuming they don’t start celebrating the MAC west too soon.

That Toledo offensive line, darn good.

RE: Top Quarterback
Logan Woodside would not be nearly as effective in NIUs offensive system as he is in Toledo’s. Our offense is based first and foremost on a running QB, which Woodside is not. Those wide open receivers we have seen throughout Childers time at QB are a byproduct of a running QB. Santa would fit very well in Toledo’s system; like Woodside, his running is more out of necessity (if receivers are covered). Our scheme never changed to meet Santa’s skill sets; it did under Harnish. This is why Childers and likely Hall are our best chance at success given our offense. This is Huskie football. Against most MAC teams it works very well.

Against most MAC teams with bad defenses. Any team with a good defense and
the offense struggles. Unless you hit some deep balls. Santa is the only QB who proved he could do that. Harnish and Lynch were good runners and passers, that's why it worked for so long. Hare and Maddie were a couple of steps below them, but it worked pretty well. Santa and Childers are both inexperienced, but right now Santa is the better passer and Childers the better runner. I wish NIU would change the offense a little to work with the skills they have instead of fitting everyone into this rigid scheme.
