RE: Don't Overreact
NIU will never again play Toledo on a Saturday. ESPN has NIU by the balls, and until NIU gives up and cancels the football program, we'll be playing Toledo at 3 am on a Wednesday morning on ESPN3.

I know the defense is going to take it on the chin for this one, but you can't expect them to save your ass every game. At some point the offense was going to need to pick up the slack.
Finish the season strong, win 9 games, and lets go win a bowl game for once.
Proud of this group. It's really hard to reverse a backslide and they did it.
+1. Really hard to beat a top mid major like Toledo 7 of 8 years. Especially at the Glass Bowl in a year Toledo could finish top 25.

For the record we could do a lot worse than Rod. But it's ok to be critical of his decision making.
Hope Huff comes back and we finish with 1 loss in conference and win a bowl game.

On the plus side, Harbison looked good. I hoped he would get more carries in the second half [cough] Carey [cough]

Would be great if he replaces the production at RB when Huff is gone. He was a highly rated recruit and you could tell the talent is there. If he and Childers make progress NiU could have a big year in 2018, especially with a lot of defensive starters returning.

Frustrating game to watch, Toledo is a good, well-rounded team. NIU just too immature in a few key spots, I thought Childers played OK, but yeah missed throws per his norm, also a few where the receivers could have helped him a bit more.
The only thing that really irked me tonight was taking a knew with a minute-plus and 2 timeouts at the end of the 2nd half. Our offense isn't good enough to just not take possessions.

Yea, that was pathetic. I mean, you're playing Childers because you're risk averse as it is, you don't trust him to try to make some yards without doing something dumb?

Agreed. Harbison does have talent, He is big, hard to bring down and runs a 4.6 40, Of course we have Rowell waiting in the wings.

RE: Don't Overreact
Disappointing drops by Beebe.
I always said that when we were winning the MAC the biggest difference was that WRs caught the ball at critical times. So we GOT that big first down, instead of it being 4th down and punting. Moore, Ashford, etc. caught the ball when we needed it.

Yeah, I'm not saying take a 7-step drop and go 4 all deep...but run a couple conservative plays and see if anyone gets loose. I don't think Toledo had any timeouts left either.

No shame to lose to a better team, especially on the road.

24 hours to lick the wounds, and then it's on the Bronze Stalk game against a BSU club was just outplayed by just a little bit by EMU, falling short by only 42 points.

Pretty much normal for BSU in conference play this year. They were OK in non-conference games but they have gotten destroyed in all their MAC games, with the closest game being a 28-point loss to Akron.

Don't knock 'em...a couple of breaks and they lose to EMU by only 39.

You're down 10 and you just leave your better throwing QB on the sidelines. This is where I don't agree with Rods coaching philosophy. He never takes a risk. The D played like trash too but they kept us in the game. We got lucky last week with bad fg kicking. This week we played a competent offense and he burned us over a me over. Got news for you kids but Kevin Kane isn't going to be here next year and we're letting our best year as a defense fade away into a meaningless bowl game and an 8 win season.
Hope one of these QBs really takes a step in the off-season because starting another freshmen isn't the answer.
I really hope NIU wins a bowl game this year just so the Carey haters can go from "he can't win a bowl" to "he didn't win the MAC."
I see it's already started!
I thought you said no one cares about bowl games.
Wtf you can't use this circular argument. I'll take winning the MAC over a bowl win 100 times over 100. Bowl games are meaningless exhibitions.
I just hope NIU wins so I can watch dopes like you flip flop.
It's curious how someone who never played football can so confidently make a statement like that. For the players, it is not a "meaningless exhibition". The players work all season to get to a bowl game. Do you really think they don't care if they win or lose?
I'd like to believe you don't really mean that. My guess is it just fits your narrative in your quest to defend Coach Carey as he continually and comically gets out coached in every bowl game NIU appears in.

Yeah, I just don't see it. Hare couldn't hit a deep ball his first year as a starter either, but you could see he had arm talent/strength. Childers really just can't throw.
They wouldn't let Lynch throw the ball his sophomore season. Yeah u all overreacting. Sure he is no lock, but who on this team is?

RE: Don't Overreact
If somebody would have told me before the season started NIU *could* finish 9-3 with starting a redshirt freshman QB (and a severely flawed one according to some of yous) in most of their games and their best player on a nationally ranked top 10 defense was only a sophomore I would be doing cart wheels. And I am not an agile man
Toledo was the better team this year. But we have the brighter future. With that said, I hope Toledo wins out and UCF takes a loss soon and Toledo represents the MAC for the group of 5 spot in a NY6 bowl for the second year in a row. That would be great for the conference

Santa impressed me in the SDSU game, interceptions included. No ballz, no brass ring. Santa has an arm and can hit the long pass.
Excuse me, but that 1 interception was 11 yards short. Mistake by young qb. It hspprns but he should have been long not short. Learning experience 4 him. Carey couldnt afford to lose with him.
