The MAC has decided what's important to them and it's not us.

True; very sad, but true!

I hate the MAC commissioner. What an idiot.

I am sick of having to take days off of work to attend a game or 2 at NIU. In the dark ...in the cold. It's BS

Today's game vs. Toledo...a FIVE P.M. KICKOFF????!!!!! WTH??

If the Ball State game was on Saturday. Realistically how many more fans do you think would show up? 1,500 at the most? Fan base has been crap save for a game or two here and there since 2005.

I don't mind MACTION at all. Helps me to make sure I use all of my PTO and then the weekend doesn't have a day shot. Makes for a boys night out ladies stay home. Who wants to be in the office when you can be kicking back with a cold one outside Huskie Stadium at 1 pm on a Thursday?

You can't make that comparison anymore, the appropriate question, is how many more fans would there be had the ESPN deal not gone through 10 years ago if the BSU game was played on a Saturday, then 15-20,000 would be the right answer. The amount of time the NIU product has become inaccessible to fans has a cumulative devastating effect.

Right, because the weekday games have essentially been a 7-8 year plague. If games go back to Saturday the attendance will increase immediately, but it would likely be a slow increase with most benefits being shown several years from now. Unfortunately we've been drained down to nothing at this point and would need to create a lot of brand new fans. It's a shame considering NIU was one of the best G5 programs in the country for a several year stretch of "MACtion".

Yes, if you moved a game to saturday, the attendance will be still bad. But thats because the fanbase has been eroded over the long term by a lack of outreach and the weekday games. If you want well attended saturday games, NIU now has to rebuild the fanbase from the bottom. Simply changing it to saturday will not do much in the short term.

Your lack of outreach comment is dead on. Funny how I've been contacted for a week about donating for the giving week, while I had difficulty getting return calls or e-mails a few months ago from the same people who are contacting me now.

We have lost our fan base for $670,000 per year ( each MAC school gets $670K ) for the ESPN "deal".

Sorry - that is just NOT enough money to justify destroying our fan base.

I am serious when I say we need to start a fan campaign against the MAC comish. That POS needs to be fired. We need to be calling, emailing, shaming the MAC on social media. And not let up. I do not want another season with only TWO Sat, home games and the rest weeknights. Korcek's article says 25% of the MAC games are weeknights...not true for NIU. This year 50% of our games were weekday games!

Not that its worth it but its $10mil a year starting this season. The $8mil per year was for the remainder of the orignal contract.

Its 100% up to the University Presidents who can tell the MAC what to do.

Practically that means 7/12 University presidents asking for Less weekday games.
Besides possibly NIU and Toledo who else would possibly be on board?

Still blows me away that WMU played Buffalo on a Saturday late in the season and Toledo the Friday after Thanksgiving last year.

I just cringe whenever I see that. It feels so far into the future.

I know the MAC ain't much more than a blip on Joe Q. Public's radar. But it's still nice to be included - even tangentially - on those Monday morning watercooler conversations about how things went down over the weekend. Instead it's... "oh, we don't play until Wednesday night opposite The Voice and Shark Tank reruns". 07-coffee3

The novelty has long dried up.

And lucky for us on the Buffalo one. ESPN Game Day wasn't coming to Kzoo on a Tuesday.

Any university that
1. Had (past tense) a fan base
2. Cares about their student athletes
3. Partners with their communities
4. Wants to improve their football team

I would guess WMU and Ohio. I'm sure there are others/
