Kansas fans rationalized as a way of "stabilizing the program". If that was the case, they should have done in 2015 what Baylor did with Rhule last December: give him a seven year contract and forget about it until year 4 or 5. The act of giving someone an extension is at the very least a tacit approval of their actual job performance to-date(not some "pogram stabilization" mumbo jumbo).

Sounds similar to our deal. So burned/scared by being left behind that we marry the rebound. I agree, an extension means you feel this is the right direction. heck, even their press statement reads like ours

Quote:"This shows our appreciation for Coach Beaty, his staff and our players," Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger said in a prepared statement. "I have enjoyed watching their progress during this season. We want to capitalize on the momentum we all saw as the season came to a close. This reflects our belief in Coach Beaty's leadership, and the energy and enthusiasm that we see every day from him and his players."

I guess 2-10 is considered progress over 0-12... technically.

It is literally infinitely better than 0-12; a huuuuugeeeee increase..... 03-wink

Also gave them their first win against Texas since 1938.

I can't imagine any fans being happy with 2-10 every year, even if it would be the very definition of stability. When your mean is that low you want all the variance you can get.

I think he meant "stabilizing" in the sense of stopping the bleeding. When a patient is in "stable condition" that doesn't mean they're ready to go home.

Still Going 0-12 and 2-10 isn't stopping the bleeding. Had they gone 5-7 or something, it would make sense - not back to the Mangino days of success but not bottom 10 either.

I just do not understand what they see in Beaty. He was pretty awful at Rice, was pretty awful in his 2 years at Kansas and then they decide somehow he'll turn it around post-extension?

Beaty still isn't working with a full deck of cards.

In 2016 he only had 58 scholarship athletes (out of 85). This year they have around 76 scholarship athletes on the roster. He has dealt with significant numbers of transfers because of all of the coaching changes and the recruiting decisions, as well as how the NCAA determines how players get counted toward the 25 player scholarship maximum, per year.

This article describes a bit about how this past year they only had 16 scholarships to hand out: http://www2.kusports.com/weblogs/keegan-...ew-schola/
