I *love* getting a CFB game every single night of the week (save Monday, b/c ESPN is a coward to the NFL).

I wish the Sun Belt and C-USA and FCS would hop aboard so I could get this kinda action starting in September.

What would MAC recruiting be like if it didn't have a TV deal? I'd hate to find out.

From 24/7 sports:

MWC
Colorado St 139.25
Boise St 135.28
SDSU 113.39
Nevada 104.65

MAC
Western Mich. 151.76
Toledo 137.28
NIU 120.14
BGSU 100.36

CUSA
Western Ky. 144.23
UTSA 124.75
LaTech 119.56
So.Miss 104.07

SBC
App St. 120.57
Ark St. 106.28
Texas St. 99.27
Georgia St. 98.77

MAC would be dead last in FBS recruiting without the ESPN deal.

Is that liquor cabinet still open? I could use a couple shots at this point.

Maybe they are so low because of the TV deal?

No MAC games after Thursday night this week. When everybody is paying attention on Saturday, the MAC isn't there. I think its a disastrous long term move.

Some T/W so they get exposure is good for them. Too much hurts them.

They might look at a joint deal with CUSA so they don't have to put so much on T/W and will still have some Saturday games. They shouldn't have any school have to play more than 2 home games in a year on T/W. It just kills attendance.

RE: "MACTION" Kick OFF
I'm more inclined to think they're higher because of the deal - what does the MAC offer that the other G5 conferences in that post do not? We're a bunch of non-flagship schools (exception to UB) in bad northern climate within an aging demography and slower economic growth rates than the south. The really isn't a ton to set us apart aside from history really.

One thing I've always found interesting about the MAC is how competitively flat everything is. Every year when they release the FBS team revenues, even if they can be skewed you still always find the MAC has by far the lowest range of any conference. There may be a lot of differences between Miami and EMU as an institution, but even in that regard we have a lot more common than Marshall and Rice. Without that many inherent differentiators between us, it's probably the 'easiest' conference to bring a loser into contention or tank a winner. That kind of flatness brings the cream to the top without a ton of random influences, probably why so many big name coaches started there.

The turf is literally grey. It's really weird but it actually kinda works for me, especially compared to other non-green playing surfaces.

Is that so they can wear green uniforms at home?

RE: "MACTION" Kick OFF
MACTION was great when it was just a game or two per week and they were handpicked matchups of solid teams. Expecting the whole league to play week nights all of November and then farming out the weak content to CBS is just lazy on ESPNs part and its damaging to the league. I wish that ESPN would mix in top flight Sunbelt games on the November weeknight schedule. These G5s should not have to play more than one weeknight home game a year and one away game.

Yeah...I didnt realize every single MAC game from here on is on a week night. That seems to be pushing a good thing too far. For one thing, it certainly seems counter productive to compete against yourself on week nights by running games head to head. A double header with an early and late start games is a better strategy. I'd have left a game or two a week to still fall on Saturdays. If you did one on each night from Tues-Thursday with one double header night---you'd still have two left for Saturday. If you just did one on each Tues/Wed/Thurs you could have 3 on left for Saturday each week.

Why do you think I'm so desperate on the AAC board? The MAC and these weeknight games absolutely wreaks havoc on the school's attendance and season ticket base.

It's not actually annoying at all ... which is a massive contrast with Boise State's headache inducing blue field.

ESPN has probably mentioned The U and their upcoming Notre Dame game more than the Miami actually playing tonight.

Fun fact btw, when Bo Schembechler was at Michigan the scoreboard would always read Miami of Florida.

"MAC-tion" may be one of THE most cringe-worthy Schticky slogans ever... I swear Umass turned down the all sport offer just based on that.

NIU has never been terribly loyal to the MAC I wouldn't be shocked if they make a strong campaign for the AAC whenever an opening comes up.

On the AAC side I think the greater Chicago area thing would be a perk. If they can bring a Big Ten opponent to stadium downtown every few years like they have been that would be another plus. The Huskies just need to keep winning 9+ games a year to stay relevant and in the conversation.

Some day things are going to start moving again and the AAC is going to provide back fill to tweener conferences.

NIU has already been in contact with AAC reps and has been lobbying for a position in the conference as recently as last year. I said it before, but I personally know NIU hosted AAC reps at the Chitown Showdown with Toledo last year. I don't thinkit went fantastically, but any dialogue and appearance is better than none.

Yes - Bo was a Miami alum and was head coach in Oxford before going up to Ann Arbor. Shoulda specified that in the post...

OU is managing Toledo pretty well, unless the Rockets come back you can kiss whatever slim hope the MAC had of getting the NY6 bid goodbye.

I think any team would leave the MAC for the AAC if given the chance.

I thought Ohio would win this I am a Solich fan, but Toledo plays some damn good football usually

they are a lot like Fresno under Pat Hill they are not scared to go play P5 teams and they play them tough

it is too bad the MAC is not more in the running for the NY6 their top teams could play with any of the AAC teams easily
