Seems as if, Southern would like to have Coach Clark, as their coach. Can't blame them, he's a winner up to Date. Nice to be desirable. But he's ours, for at least the Season. How's Coach, Neal looking these days, cause that's a nice new office.

I find it quite humorous for all of these schools to be able to hate UAB & say that is sucks all the while saying that they would like to hire Coach Clark for their program.

One might expect to see disparaging remarks from century old program's fans while UAB is still looking forward to its 50th anniversary in 2019 and its football program its 30th anniversary as D1. I am seeing a shift in preference among young players to go to urban centric universities instead of rural &/or small town campuses. This has led to the rapid development of programs at relatively new schools in places like Tampa, Orlando, Atlanta, B'ham, Huntsville, Memphis, Houston, Charlotte or older schools near such urban centers.

Yes, Huntsville. They are projected the largest city in Alabama in the not too distant future, unless Birmingham can significantly add population within the city limits.

What school in Huntsville is attracting young players.
Don’t deny they kind of fit the logic.

UA-H won't ever get to have much Athletically beyond what they have now.

The BOT will make sure of that.

Completely agree! The BoT has already tried to kill hockey.

Well, with hockey taking 80% of the budget. I can understand looking at the sport. Due to title 9, UAH will never be able to field a football team unless they add three or four more women's sports. And with hockey taking most of the budget, this is not going to happen.
>
Unlike football there are no big pay checks for playing an away non-conference game. The best you can hope for is that teams like Michigan or Wisconsin will pay the hotel room/food for the weekend. A conference game has no money at stake and the visiting team has to pay for the hotel rooms.
>
Unlike up North where nearly every University or college has a hockey team and you can travel about 100 miles and play three different schools, there is none near Huntsville. Think of the cost to travel to Mankato, Minn., Fairbanks, Alaska and Marquette, Mich. and the school picking up the tab for the entire cost of travel, lodging and food.
>
With attendance around 2 to 3 thousand a game, there is not very much return money for the sport.

You have made a slam-dunk case for someone at UAH to suggest sacrificing hockey in order to have D1 football. According to your numbers, hockey at UAH looks about as unsustainable as Dr Watts' 2014 figures on UAB football, and they seem to support Dr Portera's action on UAH hockey.

Now if all the university club hockey teams in Alabama (and LA, etc.) grow to D1 status, UAH would have a seniority advantage with reduced travel expenses. I personally would like to see southern universities get away from their present "football at the expense of all other sports" practices (EX: According to published reports, Bama spends about $100 million of the AD's $150 million annual income only on football "needs").

UAH could not support a football team. I've posted these same facts about the hockey program time and again. It was hemorrhaging money, and once somebody stepped forward with a check book the program lived on. UAB football was not in the same situation UAH hockey was at any point in time.

I have to read the whole thread again to figure out how it diverted to a discussion on UAH.

Doesn't matter. The B'ham metro area is twice the size of Huntsville

Cities and their metro areas are dependent on how well they are able to adapt to economic changes they can't control. Huntsville can't control the shrinking funding for the space industry based for many years at Redstone Arsenal and the NASA Space Flight Center. Who could have imagined Russia as the main launching site and Russian rockets for the support of the ISS?

Like wise, B'ham has had to adapt to USX shrinking from over 30,000 well paid employees in 1978 to only 2 or 3 thousands by 2017. UAB has taken over as the metro area's major economic engine, but it may be affected by cuts in federally financed grants for medical research in the future. For the city, only the minimal low wage service employees live in the city while the higher income folks live in the suburbs.

B'ham also used to be the HQ of a number of large banks, but now has only one or two.
