Not really PC issues. Just about anyone who did that at work would face some sort of internal discipline for it. I just think it should have been game 4 of the world series and be done with it. Players Union thought that was a terrible idea, but that 5 games without pay early in the season wasn't...

So what is the difference between political correctness and Orwell’s thought police?

Orwell’s answer would be nothing.

More ridiculous PC. You've got a Spanish speaking Cuban new to America and he gets a 5 game suspension for basically taunting an opposing pitcher. Sensitivity training is one thing. But the suspension is just an unreasonable knee jerk reaction.

He's new to America. No common sense by the commissioner. Baseball must be getting pressure from politically correct corporations and starting to make the same bad decisions as the NFL.

Five games for making a racist gesture is pretty tame, they even let the enforcement of it wait until next season.

Five games with no pay on a first offense for someone new to the country and culture?

It's less than I would get for making a racist gesture at work...

Yes, but you have had the rules drilled into you by your employer and are an American who understands all this. And he wasn't doing it to a "co-worker."

No, I've never had my boss say "don't make racist gestures".... And the non Americans I work with are, just like me, aware that you don't do that.

The difference is that we are not entitled millionaires who think we can do anything without consequence.

He got off *incredibly* easy.

To those defending this piece of ****...

1 - Do employers have the right to set a code of conduct?
2 - Is the government going after him?

Wake me up when the government wants to get involved in telling either him or his employers what they can do.

You go visit another country, you are still expected to follow their laws. What is the difference here?

What law did he break?

None, but he violated a rule of his employer, which he is expected to know.

You don't get to play ignorance of the rules anywhere.

Weird. I bet you didn't/don't defend the NFL rule stating all players must stand for the national anthem with such vigor and moral fortitude.

Thanks for clearing that up.

For exactly nobody...

It needs to be stated for many in this room.

You know that's an ugly thing to say, it really is... And I'm on the same side of you on this one. Be better than that.

You don't think pulling your eyes back to squint and saying "little chinaman" is at all mocking a race? really?

If this was a zero tolerance policy he would be missing some world series games. But he's not. He is missing 3% of next season.
