They still have a shot to finish in the top25 with UCF on the slate....AND that game determining who reps the AAC West. You could tell they were not all the hype in the first 2 weeks of the season.

So, does this give an outside shot for Toledo to reach the NY6 bowl?

It’s a long shot, but if we win out and some things go our way in the AAC with UCF, Memphis, and SoFL, there is a chance.

Even with the loss USF will likely still be getting more votes in the polls than Toledo. Toledo is simply missing that signature win this year that they need to get into the mix. The problem is that with three teams from the AAC in top 25, knocking each other off doesn't inflict sufficient damage because as long as all three are ranked such a loss is a "quality loss" that doesn't hurt a lot and the corresponding win is a "quality" win that is a nice boost, an advantage that the MAC doesn't provide for the Rockets this year. It is the same reason that you can have an 8-4 or even 7-5 P5 team in the top 25 while a 10-2 G5 team is on the outside looking in. It will take a lot of upsets of the top three AAC team (such as non-ranked Houston's win over USF today) to open a crack that a team such as Toledo might slip thru. The chances of the stars aligning just right for the Rockets this year are slim to none----even if the run the table from here on out they are going to need a lot of help--------it would almost require some 3 or 4 loss AAC them to catch fire toward the end of the season and win the tournament for the AAC not to get the bid this year----possible but not likely. The table was set for an access bowl invite for the Rockets in 2015 after the Arkansas win but then the November Monster raised it ugly head once again and dashed those hopes in an instant.

RE: USF loses to Houston
biggest thing for us is to keep winning. if we go 12-1 we will have a good bowl situation. if another G5 with a similar or worse record gets the NY6 bowl there will be pressure to secure 12-1 toledo a good bowl opponent, especially if we keep putting up 50 on people.
