QBR Rating
Roback 39.8
Childers 31.9

Roback had less completions, more attempts, less yards, threw one less TD and still had the better rating.

How is that possible?
Please explain.

Childers didn’t play well at all....until he had to. Hopefully he built some confidence against a very good defense

It's a lot more complicated than just looking and comparing the stats

Thanks.
I still think it is a little weird.

Roback looked better than Childers, but the stats tell otherwise. They were pretty equal.
I think the difference is that Childers has little chance of completing any long passes on the fly. Any attempt is almost a wasted down. The "long" pass to Wimann was all yards after carry.

You have to have some deep ball threat to beat the good teams.

Yeah, Childers looked like a freshman (which he is), the reads are just slow, struggles to decide to run quickly on pass plays, even though he's a very athletic/good runner once he does. It's not really bad...he just looks like a freshman that has room to grow. I thought we'd maybe end up seeing Santa last night, Carey seems to have lost confidence in it.

The quick pass to DJ Brown was great. Over the middle (shocked) and DJ out ran everyone.
I still see a ton of potential with him.

Roback is good at getting the ball out quickly. He made quick, sharp decisions which make it harder for us to get more sacks.

Last night was great experience for Childers. I see nothing but improvement from him going forward as he will grow.

Looking for more reasons to get behind Childers? How about this one...with Graham out Childers is now our most experienced QB. He now has more game reps than Santa. Who would have thought that a month ago? Outside of a few token reps, by our next game we will have had no other QB see any action for nearly a month.

I have no idea how he got that ball to Wimann

Given how fast the qb situation can change (injuries, poor play), what are the odds we see Thompson get some real game reps this year, an emergency thing? Any? I give it 20% :) I just can't see us playing out the year with Childers, even if he does fine, I am so used to seeing us forced to play many QBs, the thought of any type of stability seems crazy.

This is actually a very interesting question. By some reports, Thompson actually left camp as the #3 QB (ahead of Childers). If they are completely committed to this offensive scheme, Thompson may be the next man up. He was a running QB at MOunt Carmel. Clearly of the 5 QBs on the roster the one who is least like the others is Santa.

^^This. I don't see Childers able to do this. At least not this year. I will be shocked if we beat Toledo this year. It is frustrating to watch Childers. Our offense just has no spark with him.

haha - I guess you're right. And 2 were West games and 1 East game. So East POW is even less important.
