Don't Hate Me but UofM is one of the most difficult Football jobs
Is this guy on crack stating UofM is a tough job.....built in recruiting disadvantages....lol

UofM has I believe the second highest coaching staff salaries in the country. I mean their QB passing coordinator makes more than Creighton (tongue in cheek). UofM has the best facilities, highest salaries, alumni who buy recruiting vacations....this sports journalist is a Harbaugh apologist. Sorry for posting an UofM article but I found it so absurd!!

Harbaugh makes 3 million more than Saban and Meyer! 03-lmfao

If he ends the season with losses to Wisconsin & Ohio State, having already been whipped by Penn State, and embarrassed at home by Michigan State, even the most ardent Michigan fans will start to turn on him.

He's damn lucky he's had 2 great DC's propping up HIS woefully inadequate offenses.

Dear Luckeyone,
This is why I have disliked U-M athletics since Bo was there. The constant hype of not just how good U-M is, but how great they are. The media has also been sucked into this publicity machine, since the Detroit newspapers devote two to three reporters who do nothing, but cover U-M, with such stories as what Coach Harbaugh had for breakfast, or his pet dog, or where his next vacation spot is located.
Then you have comments made by players, such as the infamous 'Lil brother' statement from Mike Hart.
When I was a boy, my mother occasionally took my brother and myself to U-M games, and the stadium was never sold out. U-M had decent teams then, but the stadium was only two-thirds to three-quarters filled. That's why Athletic Director Canham made the U-M games a necessity, rather then something one might choose to do. That's when all the Walmarters showed themselves.

I don't regret UofM the publicity and coverage (I'm jealous, though).

Any teams (e.g., UofM, PSU, etc.) which can draw 100K+ must have huge followings and deserve a lot of coverage.

Don't think for a moment that a 14 - 2 NFL team or Alabama doesn't get HUGE amounts of local coverage.

YES, it's excessive but they earned it. We got some awesome coverage in 1996 when we played in the NCAA tourney. And we earned every bit.

Dear steve,
I couldn't disagree more with your comment that they "earned" it. By having 100,000 fans at their games? Why do they have to have three reporters from the Free Press do nothing, but cover U-M football? In the past seventy years two national championships, with the most recent one shared with Nebraska? When was the last Big Ten championship? You earn coverage by winning championships, not by having 100,000 fans show up to your games.

Ken,

Attendance can be thought of as a proxy measure of support for athletic events. Ditto for television ratings.

UofM and MSU are putting up big TV numbers I've read. ESPN loves them.

Dear steve,
The television numbers are there because everyone believes U-M is so great. It is a made-up fairy-tale. Certainly ESPN loves them, and everyone can't wait to watch their game on television, except the truth comes out when they play Pennsylvania State, Michigan State, Ohio State, and a few others. That they are not the team everyone keeps thinking they are.
All I ask for, is some independent thinking when it comes to U-M, not a bunch of Lemmings running to their death. That includes the media, as well as the Walmarts. Anyone can support any team they wish, but let's not have the glorification of that team. That's what has happened to U-M.

Ken,

You are completely missing what happens with sports teams, political parties, etc.

It has been studied that most voters decided, explicitly or implicitly, their political affiliation by say age 25. The same thing usually happens with sports team following.

What this means, is that a fan will pick a school, sometimes the school he or she attended, or the school in his locale, or whatever and FOLLOW IT FOR GENERATIONS.

Probably most baby boomer UofM fans have been following them since the early days of Bo. What happens any given Saturday or year changes nothing.

People can change Steve. When a team underperforms for long periods of time many fans will stop caring and move on to another team. No one is forced to pick anything by 25 and stick with it to the grave.

Regardless it’s laughable anyone would ever make the claim that that UM is one of the most difficult football jobs. That’s just not factual, let’s move on and worry about our school.

Agree. Nothing good happens discussing UofM on an EMU board. 03-idea
