I saw the IFP today at the Mean Green Mania event, while picking up my season tickets. The structure is very large. Aside from punting, North Texas could actually play a game in the place.

As for the "Mean Green" on the side of the building in the rendering, They are actually the size in the drawing, they do light up, and they are currently being installed.

Whoa I just saw 16 million? How is UTSA spending 44 million on their RACE center?

because I believe that unt is only the indoor practice facility, while our RACE will have offices, workout rooms, health center and wellness areas for athletes, study rooms and other such things.

We already have an athletic center. $16 million is IPF only.

I’m seeing it cost 19 million for you’re athletic center? Is that right? 45k sqft? I’m just thinking 45 million for UTSA’s RACE center seems pretty expensive, even 16 + 19 = 35 million which is still 9-10 million difference which is a lot & your facilities are very nice.

I work in the construction industry in central Texas and it is notably more expensive to do work in San Antonio. We spend a lot more in labor because of all the rediculous regulations the city has for construction sites. It is also extremely difficult to get the supplies we need. We usually have to go out of our way to Austin from Horseshoe Bay to pick up what we need and then bring it to San Antonio. Not sure that explains the high price tag for ya'lls facility, but that's my experience with doing construction there.

Ya I don’t know. I doubt it’s a 10 million dollar delta. But maybe 1 million at the very most. I am looking to find the size of the RACE center. I think it’s over 80k sqft. Rice is building a nice one too

I always take budgets with a grain of salt. Each organization can be different in what they consider as part of the budget. For UNT's athletic center, the land was already owned and I believe local construction costs were down due for some reason I can't remember.

Our athletic center is nice but too small for our needs. After the iPF the next big project is to greatly expand the football areas, weight rooms, sports medicine, etc. The $10 million difference can easily be accounted for.

I don't remember the price tag but info is here: https://www.lightthetower.com/athleticcenter.html

North Texas built the athletic center 14 years ago. Perhaps some of the reason the cost was lower, is because it cost less to build back in 2005.

The good news is even though we are still finishing our new IPF, the North Texas leadership is already moving on to the next project. We are in the early stages of beginning the expansion of our athletic center. UNT is going to double the size of the athletic center, while adding new football locker room (size doubled), academic center, offices, 2 weight rooms, video boards for Apogee, and player entrance to Apogee.

I would think North Texas will be turning dirt within a year or so from now. And when finished, UNT will enjoy a modernized athletic center of about 100,000 sq feet, between Apogee and our enormous indoor practice facility.

RE: North Texas Indoor Practice Facility Information & Photos
Maybe someone familiar with UTSA's plan can shed some light on what the $44m covers.

Per a UTSA article only $6.6m is for an ipf and it looks nice, but it is not close to what NT is building. Another $2.1m is designated for an athletic office complex.

I did not see what the other $35m is supposed to build. My guess is academic facilities not athletic but the articles I read do not really specify.
