WKU had one in plans then taken away what looks like maybe a long time, we desperately need an IPF to keep up....

Your weather is our weather a few hours earlier, too, and I know we need it even in summer from the storms that come up the Ohio Valley.

Norfolk doesn't have the weather to really justify spending the money on one. When the weather has been bad, there is an indoor facility we use in Virginia Beach. But since others in the league have one, it definitely seems necessary to build one. Good for UNT and Marshall.

Thanks. We are still irritated by the horrendous loss at FAU. But, I'll give our athletic department credit for doing a nice job of distracting us with a shinny new toy.

You guys are just about the only Texas CUSA team we care to play. Last years game was quite the thriller. Don’t hold onto the beatdowns we gave you two years ago.

If I really sit down and think about it I always come to the conclusion that this arms race is really f'n stupid though. Shiny, pimped out lockers and IPFs (in TX atleast) are completely unnecessary. Not trying to hate, as I'm sure I'd be thrilled if UTSA got one but it just seems like a case of keeping up with the Jones rather than something thats truly needed. What UAB and USA got seems more practical.

Gotta disagree with you on this one. Teams practice outdoors in middle school and high school, as well as D2. It's not unreasonable for a recruit at the FBS level to expect something more. And if your school has that something more, which basically puts you on a somewhat more level playing field with the P5's, you're putting yourself in a great position to pull in some of those recruits you may not have gotten otherwise.

Understand also, a football stadium basically gets used 6 days in the year for football, and a small handful of other days for other possible events. An indoor practice facility gets used daily throughout the course of a football season, so I think it's a very good investment in that respect.

It isn't often that I agree with a Roadrunner, but you are spot on here. In addition to what you have stated, the indoor practice facility is important because more then a few DFW area high schools already have them. And, it is a facility SMU doesn't seem to be able to offer their recruits. I don't believe they have the room to build one.

Just looked at SMU's athletic website. They don't have baseball team either. Damn, y'all are some no having baseball people in the DFW area. No wonder Dallas Baptist and UTA can have good baseball teams each year. I love North Texas and I'm glad you're in CUSA but the conference should make you field a baseball team before you're allowed to build these other facilities. You have a huge advantage over the other teams in the conference and imo it's not right.

I like UNT also, but I agree. The rest of us are at a competitive disadvantage as long as they're able to keep pouring money into football. They've got their eggs all in one basket. The rest of us can't do that. That $16 million should be going toward starting a baseball program.

No one is forcing your athletic departments to field baseball teams. If you drop them, you will have more money for building projects. And, we are not putting all of our eggs in one basket. Before we started constructing the practice facility, we built a new soccer/track stadium. We are also getting new courts at the Super Pit for our basketball programs this summer too. After the practice facility is finished we will set our sights on doubling the size of our athletic center. Sure, some of that project will benefit football (video boards at Apogee, new locker room, and new football weight room), but it will help the other sports too. If C-USA could force us to add baseball, I think they would have done it by now.

By the way... UTEP does not have baseball either (No one says anything about them). And, ODU and Rice don't sponsor softball (Maybe that gives Rice and ODU baseball an advantage) . Universities choose want sports they have, and if they don't meet the conference requirements, they would never have been invited.

1. Women's softball is a minor sport, while baseball is one of the "big 3."
2. UTEP doesn't have baseball, but it should
3. Years ago North Texas agreed to add baseball as a condition to joining the conference.

Well, apparently something changed since we agreed to join. Like, Tulane left, Tulsa let, etc. So, two of our closest conference mates left. Not saying that's the only reason, but it had to figure into travel costs, etc.07-coffee3

I've head this mentioned a few times before but I've yet to see any proof of it. If it was true then CUSA must also be fine with us not having a baseball team since they don't have any issue with it. It seems the only ones who do have an issue reside on this board.

I think the conditions the CUSA put on new members the last time consisted of "have pulse fog mirror" and "get more programs so we survive if we get raided again" and that was about it

and their desire to believe they were doing damage to The Sunbelt (while really kind of improving it) and making no real difference to The Sunbelt in terms of viability

That depends on how much time Holgorsen needs to get his system going. The Mean Green offense should be hitting on all cylinders this season. Personally, I think the UofH offense takes a step back since Briles Jr. is gone. But we will see. Hope you make it to Denton for the game. It should be a good one. I'm not calling this game until I've seen both of our teams play some football this season.

Hotels in Denton are affordable, and Apogee stadium is a great football venue. But, get your tickets early and book your room now. This one should be a sellout.

there will be a lot of walking wounded in the uH vs north Texas state game especially at QB

holgar has never been one to coach his QBs to protect themselves and OU is most likely going to light King up and in the WSU game (if he is even in it) he will be feeling the pressure to do too much to try and keep up with the WSU offense and will get lit up more....then there is Tulane that tore him up last year...

with north Texas state SMU will light Fine up early and often and the pressure will be on him to "make plays" and win the Shopping Trolley Trophy" and he will pay for that then there is no way that Cal will get caught off guard like Arkansas did and even though Cal is not great they play some OK defense and can score so Fine will be feeling the pressure to do too much as well after a probable loss to SMU and he will get lit up more

then UTSA will just be all over him knowing he is walking wounded and knowing that lighting him up is the way to stay in the game and make him not be mobile

by the time the uH north Texas state game comes both QBs will have taken a beating

I'm sure SMU has improved from when we played them last season, but I expect our offensive line to be a strength for the first time in Fines career at UNT (we appear to be better at the 2 positions we are replacing). Plus our new system does not expose Fine to as many hits as Harrell's offense did. I think Mason Fine will be healthy for the Houston game.

RE: North Texas Indoor Practice Facility: Photo
IPF scheduled to open in mid-September. Here is a quote form the AD...

"The Lovelace and McNatt Families Practice Facility is beginning to take shape. After multiple delays due to weather, the roof and most of the walls are in place and we are targeting completion by the middle of September. It is an impressive facility that will provide a significant benefit to all of our outdoor sports and will enhance our presence to everyone navigating I-35."

Our AD also mentioned that the athletic department has already started working on our next facility project... The Athletic Center Expansion.

"We recently began working with architects to determine programming needs for an expanded Athletic Center. As outlined in the Light the Tower Facility Master Plan, we have a critical need to expand this facility in order to better serve our student-athletes in the areas of sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and academic support. We look forward to sharing those plans and our next phase of facility development with you later this fall."

If hotel price is a concern don't limit yourself to looking in Denton. In DFW there are hundreds of hotels that are less than a hour from Denton on a Saturday morning.
