North Texas is a ten point or so favorite and rightfully so. They lead the conference in passing yards per game and are second to FAU in scoring. But I feel good about this one for some reason. I think we go to Denton and have a great game. ODU 42 UNT 31

I also believe this will be a high scoring game. The issue that scares me is they are not only dangerous passing, but also running as well. I think we are relatively ok vs. the pass, but run stopping has been an issue. IF they want to pass all day, we can get after the QB.

The offense came alive last week and they are going to have to play like that again without turnovers.

I really don't know what to expect. Think 10 points is a little high and expect a high scoring game.

We have to limit the turnovers, they are killing us! I know SW is young but he cant just lob it up to the recievers we have, they are not good enough. The one was SWs fault throwing into double coverage to Isiah Harper. The one out of our own endzone was all on play calling. We had just gotten momentum off the turnover and we come out throwing on our own 3 yd line?????? And all 30 yds down field. You are asking to get that picked off. I am so dissapointed in the play calling and defensive schemes this year. Its such a joke. And from a penalty standpoint, BW has lost control of the team.

Harper had 1-2 steps on both defenders. It's a TD with a good throw.

The one out of the end zone was questionable, but Fulgham not only dropped the pass but allowed it to bounce up to the defender. This is why Bobby has been harping all week on our WRs not battling for balls/catching them.

On the scale of Bledsoe to Vick, how mobile is their QB?

He's mobile but isn't a huge threat to run. Kinda like Williams.

More of an Aaron Rodgers. Fine typically runs to throw. He did smoke San Antonio Community College for an 80 yard TD run last year though, so he's got some decent wheels.

Another thing I just learned that's pretty big: Our leading WR Jalen Guyton didn't play against FAU, but will be back against ODU. That should help our offense tremendously

Edit: Nevermind about that. FAU just shut him down. Oh well, still look for our offense to play much better

Sadly this season is nearly over for us already. Have to win 4/5 games which is very unlikely.

You just never know. The offense took a HUGE step forward last week. Now we just need the defense to come back and come back ASAP.

Could be just my over-optimism, but I haven't given up yet.

And if we fall short of bowl eligibility but finish the season better than we started, I'm going to just hope we can bring it next year.

4/5 with the teams we have left to face is doable.

I agree...i've been looking for reasons to stay optimistic. We played a good half agains Marshal and a good three quarters against WKU. Hopefully we can stretch it in to complete game this time out.

The offense looked as well rounded and potent as it has all year last week and with Lawry back we have the threat to break a big play on every snap. The offensive line played its best game of the year last week and looked very solid in the first half against Marshal until they were able to stack the box because we couldn't complete a forward pass.

Other than a couple busted coverages, the defense was decent last week. Here's hoping they can clean that stuff up. If SW cleans up the interceptions and plays the way he did last week i think we have a shot at being in the game late and take our chances.

We have also played some of the top teams in C-USA in FAU (i know, that sounds strange to say...but they are probably one of the favorites to win the conference now), Marshal and WKU. If we can SOMEHOW find a way to steal this one in TX our season takes on a whole new look. That's a big IF.

Small sample size, but we've generally played pretty good on the road and at home against the Texas members. 5-1 overall and 3-1 on the road.

RE: North Texas Game Thread
On offense, UNT runs the spread, but we must be careful as it is no huddle and very up tempo.

UNT QB Mason Fine may be the best QB we have faced this season. He is accurate, has good pocket presence, throws very well on the move, and can even run, but only if absolutely necessary
The Green has a top notch receiving corps led by Jalen Guyton (19.6 yds per catch) and Michael Lawrence (13.7 yards per catch).
UNT also has an excellent rushing attack, led by 6.0 200 lb Jeff Wilson, who averages 6.7 yards per carry. This guy is a beast.

Kicker Trevor Moore is 100% for XPs and 11/12 on FGs.

This offense is better than Marshall and that of WKU; It favors the pass but is well balanced nonetheless
We will have our hands full.

On defense UNT usually plays a 3-3-5. It has been pretty good against the rush except vs FAU and to a lesser extent, Iowa. It has some weaknesses vs the pass. It is no Marshall.

I don't see us stopping their offense to any great degree, as UNT can both pass and run so we cannot "cheat".
Our OL looked better vs WKU than it had all season. We scored more on WKU than any other team so far this season. However, UNT may be harder to run on than was WKU.
If we can pass, and the receivers can catch we can keep it close, maybe even win. If not then it could be a rout.

UNT 48, ODU 34

At the risk of stating the extremely obvious, i think this game comes down to our ability to keep our defense off the field. We have to be able to sustain drives to consume clock and keep their offense from getting in a rhythm. If our defense is on the field for long drives against an up tempo offense i'm afraid we'll wear down and be in for another 4th quarter melt down like we saw against Marshal and WKU.

I'm not counting on this one, but would be thrilled with the upset. I do think we have a chance, a very long chance, but a chance at going 4-0 to end the season though. It would certainly be exciting if that last game against MTSU was for bowl eligibility.

As for this week: UNT 38 ODU 17

RE: North Texas Game Thread
I wrote a preview of the game mostly aimed at NT audiences https://meangreennation.com/2017-season-odu-preview/

If NT loses this game it will be because the offense can't execute. Even during the most notable games -- USM, UTSA -- the offense stalled for a while and not necessarily because of the opposition. Even against FAU, NT had hurt themselves by fumbling the snap on 4th and 1 on the first drive.

ODU has enough talent to make NT's offense work for points, but I don't know that the ODU offense is going to be as crisp and turnover free as FAU or even UTSA's. I think Steven Williams has enough talent to score and hit some big plays -- but I see more of a Southern Miss performance vs NT type of game - -where Kwadra Griggs had to make plays but couldn't make enough and NT won going away.
