JMU FB 2016 or JMU Football 2017
The Polls say JMU has the higher ranking. Computer rankings indicate NDSU has played the best to date. Polls and ranking agree that JMU and NDSU have been the best this year a decent amount.

Who's who you take tomorrow to play this Year's NDSU - JMU 2016, or JMU 2017?

He he - I'm trying to get away from "This year's team is the one that will potentially play NDSU", or "last year's team beat them or won NC so until 2017...", or "you can't compare one season completed vs one half way through.

Basically I want to know based on what you've seen which team (2016 or 2017) you think is better.

This years starting defense is starting to look like the FCS version of the 1976 Steelers. We've given up 3 points in the first quarter ALL YEAR.

I voted for 2017 based on comparison of stats so far in the year. If 2017 doesn't make it all the way then clearly this isn't a debate, but at the same point in the season, I'm not sure last year's offense could score many points on the 2017 defense.

HCMH told Madia this year’s team is developing faster than last year. Good enough for me.

Plus, no way 2017 team allows UNH to put 39 pts on the board, the D is nasty good.

They scored 24 in the fourth quarter. I hope we've been practicing our onside kick coverage. I know I'd try it a time or two if I were them.

RE: JMU FB 2016 or JMU Football 2017
If the saying "defense wins championships", then I'll take 2017 in a heartbeat. Our defense is playing, as a whole, far better than we were last year.
I think some of us forget about the early part of last season. We beat up on some pretty bad teams in Morehead St (4-7) and CCSU (2-9). I'd say our OOC FCS was just a bit stronger this year. Last year's FBS game was most definitely tougher of course.
We struggled in CAA games early in the season. Maine game was a tough game that was close until the 4th. Delaware wasn't good last year. The W&M game we allowed a lot of garbage time scores. The UNH game really sticks out to me because that was the game we just couldn't put them away and quickly fixed that issue vs URI. :)
Many people see the scoreboard and think that since we aren't scoring as much we cannot be as good offensively. Look at the quality of the defenses we've had to face. The Delaware game was played in awful conditions which made us look far worse than we were, not to mention UD defense being that good.
We've lost some players to injury and still have been able to play as well as we have. Just like last year, I think we are going to see what this team is truly capable of doing in these next few weeks. This team has yet to peak, and that should scare the hell out of any team we face.
Last year we didn't have the expectations we do now. If the results were the same, but the years were flipped, I find it hard to believe that people would say the 2016 version of the Dukes was playing better than the 2017 version at this time.

I agree, that this point last year, 2017 Dukes are the better team, and if that's what the poll eluded to, I'd put 2017. Funny how most of the difference of opinion is really just how you read the question.

The 2016 defense at Villanova and later was just as good, maybe even better than the 2017 defense IMO. The 2016 offense was also better, but only at around New Hampshire and beyond.

2016 team grew a lot, and would love to see the 2017 team grow the same way. Definitely clear that the 2017 team started out the year looking stronger than 2016, and hoping they'll have a similar growth the 2016 team had.

I don't think it would be fair to read it any other way. Comparing a full product to an incomplete product is just not fair to this year's team. This team could shut out every opponent from now until the championship. They could also lose every single game. Those two completely drastic outcomes completely change perception of this season.
