Late-game mistakes by true freshmen QB led Florida State and Texas defeats.

Florida State was already deep in Louisville territory -- the 21 yard line -- safely in range for the go-ahead field goal with 2 minutes left in the game when QB James Blackman muffed a zone-read handoff for a fumble ... recovered by Louisville, who marched down the field and kicked the game-winning field goal. 31-28, Louisville

Texas held off Oklahoma State, whose offense turned conservative and ineffective late in the game, to force overtime and yielded only a field goal in the first overtime possession. In its OT possession, Texas drove down to the 6-yard-line, where on 3rd down and under pressure from the the Cowboys' rush, QB Sam Ehlinger's attempt to throw the ball away was short ... and caught in the end zone for the game-ending interception. 13-10, Oklahoma State.

FSU was kind of forgotten (at least by me) after the Bama loss and their game against La.-Monroe getting postponed due to Hurricane Irma, but that's a bad team. At 2-4 and with Clemson and Florida still on the schedule, FSU may be sweating a bowl bid this year.

Bizarre decision by Ehlinger. He did a good job of playing relatively mistake-free football last weekend against OU (throwing it away when he needed to, etc.), so it's a shame that cost them the game.

Alabama only up 7 against Tennessee. Could be an interesting one to keep track of.

Army defeats Temple 31-28 in OT. One of the very rare times I have seen icing the kicker work. Needing a FG to send it t a second OT, Temple's kicker put it through dead center, nbut Army had called TO. On the retry, he missed. Army tied the game on the last play of regulation with a 16 yard pass.

Now 14-0 Bama. Still not putting them away.

UNT vs FAU has tickets on sale en masse for 4 USD. Real cheap, makes you wonder how they have any revenue at all.

That said, 4 USD is 4 dollars more than I would spend to watch UNT play F_U.

Getting closer, though. 'Bama went 77 yards for a TD in 6 plays of 2:-0 minutes. Lead is now 21-zip with 1:18 left in the half.

Will Tennessee try to score before the half ends? Or use the DB playbook to kill the clock and safely limit the damage ... and aim start anew in the second half?

Honestly, given that Butch Jones is all but fired, they may as well go nuts. Try to trick plays or something. Its pretty clear that they need to do something different - Bama will just smother them otherwise.

Per Twitter, Alabama stadium was chanting "Keep Butch Jones". 03-lmfao Makes sense, you want your opposition to do just good enough to not get fired, but remain bad enough to not be a threat. I love that Woody Johnson owns the Jets - he's guaranteed to **** it up somehow.

Vols gave it the ol' college try ... getting to around midfield before a stuff, sack and incomplete pass as time ran out. Glad they tried.

21-0, Alabama ... at the half.

We can hire a big name coach like FAU but we definitely can’t take the rejects of the college football world who get kicked out of D1 programs like they do. Lane is gonna move on and FAU will be left with the sanctions.

Wildcats' lead now only 1: 21-20 over Oklahoma with about 6 minutes left in 3Q.

Inaccurate sophomore quarterbacks are leading Utah and North Texas to defeat.

The Ute's Tyler Huntley tossed four interceptions to make Toad's life easier in Arizona State's 30-10 win in Salt Lake City.

North Texas' Mason Fine has flicked two picks in the first half, which the FAU Owls are leading 41-7. Ouch!!

During the UT game, they cut to a crowd scene at a bbq joint. One of the patrons in line was wearing a shirt that had word "Afflicted" printed on the back. Could it be?

Kansas is basically the P5 equivalent of Rice.

No surprise, because that is the last P5 team that Rice beat. And maybe the last one that Rice will ever beat.

This made me look for fewest yards allowed by an FBS team. Answer is Penn State - they held Syracuse to -47 yards in 1947.

They are also run like Rice. Who else would hire David Beaty and then give him an idiotic 5 year extension after winning 3 games in 3 years?

Maybe it is unfair but Beaty’s HC career is probably over with only a win over UT to put on his mantle. You would think that making progress at KU would be easier than at Rice but apparently being in the B12 getting P5 money and not having pressing academics still isn’t enough. Iowa State seems to be on an uptick. Maybe this time it will last for more than just a season or two.
