I like the idea of a rivalry with Navy, but Houston is a better long term fit. Both teams need to hate the other. I can't hate Navy, lol.

But scale 1 - 10....10 been a rival I'm going to say right now is at a 5 or perhaps even a 6
Veiled insult and an idiotic comment, but that's about par for you.
What on earth are you crying about... Just b/c my view is different than yours my post is idiotic. Brilliant

Schools they havent played in a decade and maybe Louisville who they've played a couple times here and there.
He doesnt think Tulsa is one either, though our shared past history says different. Memphis and Houston seem to be building a strong one in the past few years from the outside looking in.

Here's a couple awful ideas for the games name: 1) the cats' meow; and 2) the kitty clash.

RE: Memphis Houston Rivalry turning into a classic
We have history with Houston that goes way back to the 70’s. I’m talking real catfights. Robert Newhouse, T.C. Nobles, Danny Davis and others. The only losses in their ‘78 Cotton Bowl season were Memphis St., Texas Tech and Notre Dame.

Were you TRYING to pick the worst names possible? If so, you succeeded.

Then well done. I didn't know if you were trying for bad names, or just apologizing that they were, lol.

That may take a while longer. Maybe Houston needs to make the P5 without us, get caught paying hookers for recruits, and get their coach and AD fired for cheating.
Then maybe Houston would have a chance.

I would love for Navy-Memphis and/or Navy-Houston to become big rivalry games. They are certainly important - barring some bizarre outcome, those are the three West division winners since the AAC has had divisional play and a ccg, and the round robin between the three has been nip and tuck.
But it also doesn't seem to fit perfectly. Rivalries thrive on geographic proximity and similarity. None of us have the first, and Navy doesn't have the same institutional profile, but Memphis and Houston do.
This could sound negative, and I don't don't don't mean it to...our biggest West division annual tilts will still struggle to get the same level of rivalry as Army or AF, or the same history and importance to our program (profile, recruiting) as ND.
Still - some great games in the American's brief history and I'm looking forward to Black Friday, too.

That's not negative, man. We all get it. You will always have Army, AFA and probably ND.
Our biggest rivals are Ole Miss, Miss State and USM in football, but the first 2 would never think so. For a real rivalry, both sides have to feel it, or it doesn't work. And we no longer play USM, so we have to develop new ones here.
I would say Houston, and to a lesser extent, Navy, seem to be it for now.
Our biggest basketball rival has always been Louisville, with Cincy a distant second. But Cincy would likely list UL and a couple others before us.
It's tough, b/c this conference is so spread out, has a mix of publics and privates, and one military academy. Not exactly homogeneous.
The only real rivalries in this conference are UCF-USF in everything, plus Memphis-UC in basketball.
