Let me tell you a story about miko

Three wars back we called Sauerkraut "liberty cabbage" and we called liberty cabbage "super slaw" and back then a suitcase was known as a "Swedish lunchbox." Of course, nobody knew that but me. Anyway, long story short... is a phrase whose origins are complicated and rambling.

Then after World War Two, it got kinda quiet, 'til Superman challenged FDR to a race around the world. FDR beat him by a furlong, or so the comic books would have you believe.

The truth lies somewhere in between.

My sources tell me that it was an Imperial, or "long", furlong, not an American, or "short", furlong. While that was a more impressive win objectively, given the Americanism of the time the strong impression was given that it was an American furlong.

However, and this was conveyed to me over drinks in an airport bar in Tokyo, it will soon be definitively confirmed that it was an Imperial furlong.

Well you're really asking two questions there. The first one takes me back to 1934. Admiral Burn had just reached the pole, only hours ahead of the Three Stooges... and I guess he won the argument, but I walked away with the turnips.

The following morning I resigned my commission with the Coast Guard and the next thing I knew there was civil war in Spain... (later) ...and, that's everything which happened in my life right up to the time I got to this thread.

Expansion will happen in the not too distant future; however, don't expect massive change. Don't be shocked when the PAC takes 2 schools to get to 14 - schools that people thought would be nonstarters just a few years ago. Why so mundane? Because right now the powers that be are unsure of how the revenue streams will shake out. Obviously there will be some streaming, and obviously the cable model will continue to be around for awhile yet. However...in what proportions will they be? TBD. But I do know the PAC is going to reluctantly take 2 schools they really don't want. But...it will likely pay off well for them in the long term - financially if not culturally.

You're welcome.

I enjoy reading Miko's posts but... The P12 is complaining about lagging behind on revenue. Their network is not generating the revenue they projected. Why would they take 2 schools that are not going to increase their bottom line? Especially if they are "unsure of how the revenue streams will shake out?"

Their choices are the same as they have always been. Texas and Oklahoma. Possibly BYU.

Well with Texas still not budging with the LHN. It will be more like OU and OSU. The PAC should know there are more viewers of OU/OSU than just Oklahoma.

Perhaps Miko 33 is on a right track that the PAC may expand by 2. I don't think B1G, ACC and SEC want to go to 16 members.

I don't think Oklahoma State does anything for the PAC 12...I see PAC 12 presidents snubbing their noses at the Cowboys

TCU would make more sense, or Kansas

I agree on the B1G, ACC and SEC...those conferences are wildly successful right now, why mess with that?

Our story takes place in an airport, Because that is the setting of the storY. With the fracking for nat gas plus the oil shale extraction taking place, the U.s. will become (if it hasn't already) a net exporter of hydrocarBons. The extraction of fossil fuels may result in an increase in jet fuel that cOuld result in downward pressure on airlIne costs. However, this aSpect of the market will be dependent upon refining capacity. So...even with an Increase in the hydrocarbon supply, we will likely not see an uptick in refined fuel for some time. So, are 2 of these schools in the Est? Hard to say...

I saw PAC 12 officials touring the campuses of Baylor and Liberty. They want to get into the Central and Eastern time zones for TV purposes.

Crude oil production? Fracking?

Top 5 states: 1) Texas, 2) North Dakota, 3) Alaska, 4) California, 5) New Mexico.

Umh, Texas Tech and New Mexico?

Sorta works geographically.

Sure. I can see Cal and Stanford voting for that lot.

This thread proves one thing beyond a doubt. Posters here are starved for expansion news, so much so that we will actually respond to crap. Myself included.

RE: Latest info from my sources
I do think the Pac will expand by 2 just to keep up. I don't think they are going to get TX or OU which rule out TX Tech and OSU. Think we might be looking at something like UNLV with the new stadium and maybe Colorado St with their new stadium or even New Mexico. Or if they go for central time zone Baylor and Rice might be a good fit? Just don't see BYU going to the PAC.
