Interesting Data Base on 2007 Conference Financial information ...
The 2008 article linked below has a searchable data base that is still "live". It uses tax data for 2006 to show distributions for all conferences for that year. We can quibble about methodology but it's a nice little time capsule. Some highlights here, but play around with the data base because it breaks down revenues by sports, and also differences between Big East basketball and football schools.

Also, it shows the big disparity in some conferences, such as the Big 12 and the PAC, to keep their elite schools happy.

Finally, no wonder FSU has complained about ACC money in recent years: Ten years ago, the ACC made the most money, and FSU got more conference money than any school in the nation. Big changes since then:

Average per-school distributions (2006):

ACC: $10.8m (FSU $12.2m/Virginia Tech $8.4m)

Big East Football Schools: $6m (WVU $8.2m/Cincy $3.9m)

B1G: $10.7m

Big 12: $7.5m (Texas $9.6m/Kansas State $6.4m)

PAC: $7.1m (USC $10.1m/Arizona $5.7m)

SEC: $10.1m

By comparison, the MAC distributed an average of $215,000 per school that year!

For that to be interesting there should have been a 1 in front of the 7 instead of a 0 in front of the 7. 2007 info is just old information.

Disagree. I think it's fascinating to have data from the past that we can compare to the present. 07-coffee3

Since when has historical context ever been relevant? 03-wink

It also belies the theme thrown out constantly that the Big 12 was so disproportionate in revenue distribution. The Pac 12 and Big East were more disproportionate.

During that time I thought the Big East needed to copy the PAC-10 model. Just needed to add UCF and Temple would have worked perfect. 9 game conference schedule, each member had a rival. East coast and west coast are sort of similar when it comes to college sports.

Cincinnati/Louisville
Pittsburgh/West Virginia
Rutgers/Temple
Connecticut/Syracuse
USF/UCF

I thought so too....BUT, that would have made for 7 former CUSA schools plus a MAC school (Temple) and D-1A (Uconn) plus Rutgers, CUSE, sPitt and West Virginia.....the country club would’ve never allowed that.

I recall that a big factor in Big East resistance to expansion was the same thing the Big 12 thinks about these days - dividing up money among more mouths to feed.

The Big East was already at the runt-end of the dollars among the AQ conferences, and adding more schools would have made it worse, especially because no slam-dunk schools wanted to join.
