Tigers Must Block UH Defensive Tackle Ed Oliver Tonight
In order for the Tigers to keep the offensive machine rolling tonight, they must pay extra attention to the Cougars' defensive tackle Ed Oliver (#10). He's one of the top (if not the best) defensive players in NCAA football. In 2015, he was a five-star recruit out of Westfield High School in Houston and he started all 13 games as a true freshman. He's by far the best player on their squad!

RE: Tigers Must Block UH Defensive Tackle Ed Oliver Tonight
True, ftigerstan, Oliver is probably the top recruit in the AAC in its history. But, some context for tonight's game.

Oliver is playing hurt, wearing a knee brace: "Oliver suffered the injury on a low block by Temple fullback Nick Sharga in UH's 20-13 win at Temple on Sept. 30. The following day he was diagnosed with a MCL sprain in his left knee."

And Houston's defense is not what it was in '15 and '16, especially their run defense. The Cougars were top 10 in '15 and '16 in run defense, but this year have dropped all the way to 88th, allowing 176 yards pg rushing. Pass defense not that great either, 71st ranked with 226 ypg. Overall the 83rd ranked D.

Agree we must block him...

But I don't think we should change our blocking schemes to block him...

If you all remember from last year, we ran away from him (opposite side of where he was positioned) most of the game, so he was a none factor... I expect the same for tonight.
