Our Kicker
Have we replaced Hagan yet? Do we have a young kicker that needs an opportunity to shine? We need a kicker that can score when the offense can’t....03-banghead
Missed field goals kill offensive momentum.

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Hopefully we hang out to the recruit from Brother Rice and he takes over next year

This is a desperate situation. He can’t make a field goal longer than 25 yards and can kickoff long enough to reach the other teams end zone. Only thing he’s good at right now is adding to the team GPA.

They have a freshman kick, Jacob Ballain. I am not sure why he hasn't received an opportunity though? Redshirt?

RE: Our Kicker
Also, look at the following report on our wonderful punter Matt Ference:

"Ference has competed at multiple Kohl's events over the last 18 months. His most recent event was in July of 2016. He has the ability to be one of the better combo prospects in the country. Currently his punting is his strongest skill. He has the ability to be a very good FG kicker as well but the ball seems to jump better for Matt on his punts. His punting technique was one of the best at the Midwest Showcase camp in May of 2016."

RE: Our Kicker
In the last press conference Carey said:

"Christian had an awful day on Saturday. He's made a lot of big kicks around here too, so we will see how it goes today and we will go from there. I don't know if he'll recover, that's what today is for. If he goes out there and kicks bad again today, we will have more information to make a better decision. If he gets himself out of it today, then we will have more information that way. I don't want to speculate into the future with kickers, it is kind of a day-by-day thing, we just have to get him back on the right track."

So it sounds like a change is being considered. I am guessing that the FR kicker and Ference have not impressed in kicking field goals; otherwise I think we would have seen a change already. When I see Hagan going onto the flied I am expecting he will miss, so I would love to see a change, but I am not sure we have a viable alternative.

Maybe he should be full time kicker and punter.....

I hate to hear Carey say he’s made big kicks. Lol. We know that as fans but he sucks right now. He might be good at practicing but crappie on game day. Nothing to lose by letting Ference do both.

RE: Our Kicker
My guess is that Carey is giving Hagan every possible chance because he is a senior. Im sure he doesnt want to pull him because of that fact, but consistently missing FG after FG, is not giving Carey much choice, especially as we enter into playing the better teams of the MAC...

Go Huskies!!!!

Orne is listed on the roster as a redshirt Senior and is listed on this week's 2 deeps.

Sometimes when guys try to do both they become less effective in doing what they are best at; in Ference's case punting.

That said they would be foolish to not explore alternatives in this situation. I wonder if they have someone other than Ference and Hagen that could get the job done.

Hagen has had every opportunity to keep the job and it is not working out very well. His problem is not distance, it is accuracy. I hope that our line, the snapper and our holder are not the problem because if they are swapping out the kicker will not help.

RE: Our Kicker
Hagan is has a 40% hit rate on his FGs and only a 20% touch back rate with 2 kicked out of bounds. That puts him at 106th nationally in FG % which is 2nd to last among st all kickers in FBS.

How so? The only game where weather was a factor was Kent St which happened to be the only game he was 100%

http://www.cfbstats.com/2017/player/503/...melog.html

Weather was perfect vs BC, EIU, Nebraska, SDSU and Buffalo...

If you've watched any games you'll see Orne holding lol. He's a solid kicker and I'm sure he couldn't be much worse than Hagan at this point. Give him a chance!
