UCF coach Scott Frost's new role: scout-team quarterback

It's getting pretty Frost-y in October.

It's official UCF has played against the best QB they will see all season. 1997 National Champion Scott Frost! He outran Pitman on a play, he's got it still.

Kinda reminds me of high school, where our new Offensive Line coach decided to put on a helmet and run "inside drill" (front 7 vs front 7) with the team when we weren't executing.

Problem was, our new OL coach was fresh off his 2 year career as a backup Guard for the Bengals... large man, still in playing shape. Ugh.

There's already a thread about this that say hands are on his head.
Most hands on head coach in football is at UCF

Michigan won the NC that year. Frost got a 3/4 trophy. Are all you UCF fans 15 years old?

I support this.

The common refrain from shell shocked AAC or other P6 conference coaches after Navy has run all over them:
You just can't replicate the speed at which Navy executes that offense with your scout team.

So put the scout team in the hands of a 42-year old.

Excellent.

Navy coach after yesterday’s practice:

“We can play a perfect game and still get our asses kicked.”

Love his candidness.

Two more Mountaineers picked up by NFL teams
DiBernardo and Groover get the call after a tense wait over weekend
Mike Daniels
Sports Editor

Two more Appalachian State football players will be moving on to the next level come fall. Linebacker Joe DiBernardo and tackle Chad Groover were signed by the San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals respectively this week.

DiBernardo, who played linebacker opposite the newest member of the Dallas Cowboys, Dexter Coakley, found out Monday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. from his agent that the Chargers had offered him a contract after he’d been “camping out by the phone” for the past two days.

DiBernardo was first noticed by the Chargers back in March when two of their scouts came to look at he and Coakley work out. Coakley said that “He (DiBernardo) worked out with me when they were here and I know he impressed them.” Coakley said that he thought that both he and his DiBernardo going on to the NFL is an “accomplishment for both of us.”

Coach Jerry Moore also expressed this sentiment saying that “It’s a great opportunity for both of them.” Moore added that having players like these guys and Matt Stevens from the Buffalo Bills make it in the NFL not only helps recruiting for the football team but that “it helps the entire school.”

DiBernarndo described his feelings about getting to the pros by saying “I can’t even explain it. It’s a dream come true... I’m kind of lost for words.”

The other Mountaineer who has been signed by an NFL squad is left tackle Chad Groover who went with the Cincinnati Bengals after receiving offers from six different teams. His reason for picking the Bengals was that they will allow him to play guard for them. The other teams interested in him wanted him just as a tackle.

Groover also said that he was nervous over the weekend as he watched the draft in hopes of seeing his name come up. Groover’s wait was shorter than DiBernardo’s however, as he received calls from teams on Sunday afternoon. Groover said that the whole waiting game “was real tense.”

As for his feelings about being an NFL player and what it’s like to be one, Groover said “I don’t think it’s really sunk in yet.” Groover said that most of the focus has been on Coakley but that “everybody’s been real supportive,” of both he and DiBernardo

Damon Scott, the Mountaineers star running back this season has had several offers from teams in the Canadian Football League, but none from any NFL teams as of yet. However, Moore said that the Philadelphia Eagles have shown some interest in him.

That was in 1997. He was my OL coach in 2000.

Its not the qb's 40 yard speed that is difficult to replicate, its his decision making and reads that are tough and why assignments and covering the gaps are so important. Misss one and thats where the ball goes. Frost running that offense will be very similar, its the offense he ran almost his entire playing career. My guess is ucf comes out better prepared than most teams with 1 week to prepare. Will it be enough though?

Actually Frost's new role will be as another school's coach next year - if you listen to the NE folks.

If you keep saying stupid things I’m going to begin overexplaining your unfunny attempts at popularity.

Nebraska's power I / wishbone option is very different from the Johnson Niumatalolo Jasper spread option.
But, yes the option concepts and qb reads are somewhat similar, so Frost's experience will help the scout team's efficiency. But it's all 11 guys, not just one.

I agree, but few schools will have as well versed scout team qb in reading the keys and making the right decisions. I think its a dog fight ucf win. That requires ucf to play great near perfect defense though.
