34-10 Final. GSU gets a TD with 0:59 left in the game. Don't let the final score fool you, Troy dominated this game in every possible way.

Agreed. Troy looked good, GS did not.

Congrats Troy fans. I don't know how this team lost to South Alabama. Troy has the size and talent to beat down all SBC competitions rest of this season.
As for GSU, I believe we can find 3 more wins for bowling...but QB play and kicking game are not there to knock down top tier SBC teams. I miss Will Lutz and Nick Arbuckle very much.

I was thinking the same thing...not like we made it look close with that garbage time TD. Trojans played a hell of a game. (Congrats y'all.)
The bright side (heh) is that I'm actually this disappointed at losing to Troy now, with the implications it has for the outcome of the season and our place in the Belt. After that first game, it looked like a 34-10 conference loss at home might just be business as usual.
The extra downside is that the TSU loss looms really large now. We could play at the level our talent dictates from here on out, and that opening loss could be what keeps us out of a bowl. It also kinda makes our season as a whole drift from "decent" to "bad" when viewed honestly at this point in the year.

It was pretty clear that the game was over at 21-3. No running game for the Panthers, 1-3 on field goals, and Troy played mistake free football. That screen pass was working all day. Not sure what happened to our secondary that was so effective under Minter.
Panthers only needed one of Troy / USA, so hopefully we see some redemption on Thersday. Still think this is a bowl team.
Hope the Trojans that made the trip enjoyed the new stadium. Losing big at Georgia State Stadium is way better than losing big at the Georgia Dome.

Ya, that's not happening. Recruits have to sit in the stands like everyone else.
we have a recruiting lounge at the stadium
Now we all know how ULM treats their recruits and why they have a hard time getting good recruits to sign.
I'm truly sorry that ULM recruits have to sit in the stands like everyone else
I’m truly sorry that it is against NCAA rules to allow recruits to sit in a specialized lounge during the games.

Outside of the first drive, Troy looked good. We looked bad. Still, I had this game as a loss as Troy is a very good team, and I think we still have a good route to bowl eligibility. So, unlike seasons passed, I'm still in pretty good spirits about our team. I would like to see a home win though...

Georgia State fans are excused. It's understandable to think you are decent for the first time ever as a football team, than get your doors blown off and automatically assume that had to be the best team in the league.
It's sort of like the AJC penning an article this week calling GSU a "Sun Belt Powerhouse" Silly, but when one hasn't won much, you must grasp onto every good thing you see and hold on for dear life.

I see you like to pour salt on fresh wounds. "georgia state fans are excused"? pretty classy. Coach Elliott admitted that good press inflated GSU players' egos. Practice was soft all week, no intensity, and no focus leading up to the game. It's one of the growing pains of a young program.
I didn't know you followed AJC because Georgia State fans here certainly didn't provide the link. Although no GSU fans gave much thought to the "Sun Belt Powerhouse" article (we all thought that was too early, but hey, nice to see something else than Tech or Dawgs), the fact that a fan of a school 450miles away searched for our local newspaper to read about GSU football speaks volume of how much Georgia State improved. We now actually have a stadium (will be comparable to P5 stadiums once all the upgrades are fully installed over next 5 phases), located in a great metropolitan recruiting city, AD who actually understands the importance of football, President who supports our football program, and a proper FBS level coach. All these things just came together for us this year and we already looked much better. I don't care if you downvote this post, but that condescending tone is pretty irritating.
Also...I meant except A-state. It was pretty far down Troy's schedule and I missed it.

Being is a large "great" city has nothing to do with winning or helps in recruiting. If so Hofstra would be a P5 powerhouse instead of folding up their program years back. Recruit and dont hire Tyson Summers. Also most recruits dont care about a stadium unless it is empty or facilities unless they are well below your peers. A lot of P5 stadiums are old dumps but they are filled to capacity.

We are talking about 17-18 yr olds. We can talk about a quality degree from a research institution in Atlanta blah blah blah but that is frankly boring to HS kids. Nice stadiums, locker rooms, facilities, dorms, and other amenities absolutely matters. Almost every recruit talked about them during interviews. No coincidence that our recruiting ranking dramatically went up from #10 to #4 in the Sunbelt (note that CSE only had about 2 weeks from the day he was hired to the dead period)
If you don't think nice amenities matter at all, you might be telling yourself the half-truth. Is it everything? no of course not. There's a reason why an "arms race" exists in the SEC. Clemson wins recruiting battles for a reason.
