Men's Hockey General Thread 2017-2018
Started off with a bang week 1, week 2 wasn't so kind. Going into a tough atmosphere in Rochester, we escaped with a 3-3 tie after going down 3-0 during the 2nd period. We out-shot and out-possessed the RIT Tigers, but they looked really good on the counter attacks and never allowed us to be comfortable.

We still had some nice chances that we didn't finish - either due to nice saves or bad shots. A tie against an Atlantic Hockey team isn't the end of the world, and if anything it brings us down from the "This is going to be easy" attitude that we were at risk of developing after 9-1, 7-3, 7-0 scorelines.

Sikura, Gaudette, and Solow with 7 points in 3 games. Keep it up kids. Primeau started in goal, had a few nice saves but wasn't a world beater. I think the goalies will probably split the games next weekend.

Week 3 is vs. #18 Quinnipiac. Back-to-back games at home. They've played a bunch of Hockey East teams tough already this season. Honestly anything worse than a split is concerning. Let's go Huskies!

First game on the road, freshman goalie, the opponents "homecoming" game in a downtown arena -- nothing wrong with a tie.

When we get Bowling Green transfer Brandon Hawkins and Liam Pecararo eligible the next semester it will add more depth to our lines.

Some nice passing on this PP goal ...

Had a rough time against Qunnipiac. Really disappointing. Lost a game we should have won that Friday night. Outshot Q 41-15 but lost 6-4. Tough time for freshman Primeau in net. Lost game #2 3-2 on overtime in what will be another killer for the pairwise. We were outplayed and outshot that game.

Hockey East overall having a terrible start to the season. Hurts for the pairwise, and we should expect fewer bids for the NCAA's this year.

The good news is we bounced back against Lowell, winning 3-1 at their place thanks in part to an Adam Gaudette hattrick and winning 5-4 in overtime at home in a back and forth game. I'm interested to see how things shake out this season. Lowell seems like a pretty decent team but are already 0-4 in conference play. UNH off to a surprising hot start, so let's see if that will continue.

Team hanging in at #15 in the polls. Big game at bu on Saturday. I am not sure if Sikura will be playing or not. Tough to lose him for a lot of time this season, but it's a good opportunity for him to possibly play for team Canada in the Olympics. Probably ends his chance at winning the Hobey Baker award though.

Sikura is scheduled to play this weekend.

Solid win @ bu on Saturday. Really played well the first two periods and then shut them down in the 3rd to not give up any great scoring chances. The ones that we did were saved by Primeau who had a great game filling in for an injured Ruck.

bu really gooned it up though. Ruck is now out with a concussion after getting a hard forearm to the head. Lerario was elbowed in the head and probably has a concussion. He did not play the remainder of the game. The culprit form bu, Nikolas Olsson, was issued a major penalty and has been suspended for a game by Hockey East.

Even worse is Dylan Sikura, who was slashed and now has an injury keeping him out of the pre-olympic tournament. Feel really bad for him. Needless to say, I expect he'll be out of the NU lineup for a while as well.

Friday bu comes to Matthews so I expect a very chippy game. @ Lowell on Saturday in what I expect to be a chippy game as well. Stay healthy boys.

Awesome win tonight. Spanking bu, nothing like it.

Primmeau impresses me more and more every time he's out there. He had the one bad game vs. Quinnipiac, but after that it's been good.

1st period was Husky domination. 2nd period we rode out the bu storm. And in the 3rd we played conservatively, giving bu lots of weak shots and playing for counter attack goals. Great game plan and can't say enough about 6 goals vs. bu with Sikura out injured.

Now they need to follow it up with a tough win at UM Lowell Saturday night.

Lowell had a good win at UNH and they’ll be fired up to get us after NU’s weekend sweep last month.

Tomorrow should be fun!

Highlights from Friday night’s beat down of BU at a sold out Matthews...

Btw, Ty Amonte, the player who did the crazy somersault, was OK and stayed in the game for the Rat Dogs.
